    Hi Guys,

When you are building a site, do you use the word:

    Forum or Discussion (board)

    What do more people search?

    Webmaster discussion / webmaster forum

Cat owners discussion / cat owners forum

    {KEYWORD} discussion / {KEYWORD} forum

What do you find works best, or what do you use and why?

    Cheers.

Is forum or boards part of your domain name?

To answer your question, forum is going to be a more popular search then discussion board. But you could include one in the site description and the other in the meta description.

Even though my forums have the name "boards" in the domain name, its not included in the keywords or descriptions. I have totally dropped the "Discussion board" title from the site description and the meta description. Removing "discussion board" from the title and description did not hurt my ranking at all. 6 months later, and its still ranked #1.

If the domain name has "boards" in it, google will see that. Then add forums to the description. Keep in mind, forums and forum - with and without the "s" will give different SERPs results. Maybe in the meta description, use keywords in combination with forum, forums and discussion boards.

As an example, my domain name has the word "boards" in it (as already stated). It has held the #1 spot in google SERPs for that keyword for months, maybe almost a year. When I started tweaking the meta description, the site started moving up and grabbed the #1 spot in other searches for ""insert keyword" forums".
