[FOR SALE] DuvetLand.com - Established Duvet and Bedding E-commerce website

Discussion in 'Sites' started by sunnymonkey, Dec 18, 2007.

I designed and put together www.duvetland.com around a year ago now. I have sold a few hundred £'s worth of bedding but my key issue has been not getting off my backside and buying in stock.

The best sellers are the themed covers (especially twister and playboy) which is why I created the featured homepage item with the video to draw attention to that section.

The site runs on CubeCart V3
I developed the skin / theme myself along with the brand
    The site has a PR2
It has generated around £700 in sales when I have actually put stock on the site over the first version and this second version of the store.
It gets around 700-1000 visitors per month with no promotion... just SE traffic
    The domain is aged

No advertising has really been done. All traffic and sales came from organic SEO listings, most of those actually being from Yahoo where the site goes between the 1st and 2nd pages from the terms "Duvet covers" and "Duvet Cover". Currently it is on the first page for "Duvet Covers" http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=duvet+covers&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8&rd=r1
    and "Duvet Cover"
    http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search;_...et+cover&y=Search&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8&rd=r1

I have included a screenshot of the top terms used to find the site from the search engines.

I simply have not had the time to run this as a full time shop, nor will I have the time in the forseeable future. As such I am looking to sell off the site.

I also have around 15 - 20 Duvet covers, a couple of lamps and some quilts in "stock" that I have not added to the site. I could look to include these in the sale and ship them to the winning bidder, but you would need to cover the shipping costs, especially if outside the UK. As such it may not be in your interest to grab the stock as well.

In terms of what I am looking for at a price I really have no idea. Feel free to send a BIN offer. I guess I am looking for a starting bit of $500 and we will see where we go from there.

Any questions please PM me, otherwise good luck and happy bidding!

I've got a few questions, if you don't mind answering them (posted here in case anyone else is wondering the same things):

How easy is it to add/edit products on the site?
Where do you get your stock from in the first place?
How will you transfer the site to a new owner?

By all means I am happy to answer your questions:

It is easy to add products via the admin interface. Enter the text, choose the picture and category etc and that's it. I do custom make my images in photoshop / any photo editor first so that they have that small "bar" at the bottom of the images, but that is optional, it's just something I do for presentation.

I get stock mainly from local markets and from some bulk buy places online. I can look to dig out the links, but generally you can find companies supplying the products in any wholesale / bulk buy directory online. They tend to have minimum purchases of a certain number of items or of a certain price, but it works out cheaper and gives you a better mark up on the products in the long run.

As for moving the site, I will be happy to help set up the site on any similar hosting set up (php, mysql, apache) and can recommend hosts if required. I will also help transfer the domain into a new free account at omnis or you can transfer the domain over to your own domain host of choice. However, with regard to technical support after that, you would need to use the cubecart forums or purchase support from the cubecart folks. Generally speaking you shouldn't need any at all as everything is running and I have done all the set up work. The skin is of custom design and if there is anything specific to that then I should be able to help you any time after sale with small requests etc. :)

If you have any other questions please do get in touch!

    Cheers,
    David

I thought it was an affiliate site at first.

You have to buy your own stock, is this correct? How much profit from those sales of $700?

To be honest it was a business idea that I started but never fully go into so I couldn't give you an exact numbers on what was made. Just to clarify that would be $1400 as its £700 :)

Yes as mentioned in the previous posts I got my own stock, I still have some sitting here that I have not put on the site. I wish I could be more exact with the numbers for you... at a guess I was making maybe 10%-20% on an order, but I was not buying at the best value from any suppliers or even abroad as I was just testing the waters for the business.

That was my thought too at first, in fact I had a quick look round on Google to see if there were any affiliate schemes for duvet covers, but I couldn't find any.

Its a nice site and potentially a very good one for those willing to buy and hold stock. Maybe a better idea would be to try and forge a relationship with a supplier who would ship out items once something has sold and you take a percentage of the sale price, which would make it a kind of an affiliate site. This might be better for those who (like me) would find it too much of a hassle to hold stock, not to mention slightly risky if items go unsold.

I guess there are guys who would be perfectly OK to run the site as is.

I think this site is a good one to diversify into ecommerce side of webmastering.

Yes, drop shipping is potentially an option. Not something I have looked into myself but I am sure there are suppliers out there.

As for the auction run time, I will give it until the weekend or if I get a good offer ;)

Thanks for the speedy reply. My other questions have been answered. I'm 17 and wanted to buy the site but as mentioned above. I neither have the time or funds to purchase and hold stock. Dropshipping is the key option, I will be watching closely and hopefully bidding. Thanks

You are most welcome. Do let us know if you find a drop shipper as others may be interested, then again, you may want to keep your cards close to your chest ;)

    Hey all,
seems that over the xmas period this sale stalled (fell to the bottom of the threads).

Anywho, the last bid still stands and the site is still for sale. As such, feel free to make your offers. I will leave it open for the next day or so to allow all the time zones to get in here and place bids etc :)

    Cheers,
    Sunny

Thanks all. The site has now been sold.

@Astroman : The guy went quiet and then said they no longer had the cash. Rather annoying but it happens every few sales on here or sitepoint :)

Thanks again everyone who expressed an interest. Indeed thanks to Treacle for being the winning bidder. :)
