I have just wrote a comprehensive guide to directory submissions - offering tips on how to use directories to your SEO advantage. Topics covered include: Free or paid directories? Niche or general directories? PageRank - does it still matter? Anchor text Varying your description Deep linking How many directories should you submit to? I have put a for noobs disclaimer in the title, but I think there are some valuable tips in there, even for experienced search marketers: http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-f...ngine-optimisation/directory-submission.shtml
Nice post there david.. thanks for sharing that. Age of the directory and to some extent PR is imp factor to check while submitting..
Would say Directory AGE - Backlinks - Indexed Pages - Cache Dates - Traffic Rank would be good indication and variables to use when submitting to paid directories .... thx malcolm
It's interesting, I don't really like this bit though: It is true but it doesn't really impart any information that's of any use to a "noob", or anyone else really. I don't see the point of writing it if there aren't at least a couple of examples that you consider "free directories out there that should always be used - directories that have stood the test of time" and the "paid ones can be better". I know it's a matter of opinion and niche and all that, but it comes across, to me at least, as one of the many non-committal paragraphs regarding SEO etc that I've read hundreds of times before over the last 6 years or so. I wonder if you could add a bit more meat to it, commit to some actual solid opinions - at the time of going to press type things, like after the free bit "... for instance, DMOZ is still well worth submitting your site to if it has good content worth reading, it's free and once your site is in there it will more than likely stay in there unless you radically alter the content or credibility or your website" - or something? P.S. Just noticed the list at the bottom, didn't see that first time. Perhaps you could just put "see list at bottom of page" or something instead, or just ignore me all together.
