I tend to group my business practices in one of two categories. Some things I do because I want to, others I do because it makes money. For example, I might import stuff and sell it for more than I bought it for, this doesn't really interest me but I'll make a shit load of money doing it. I think of this stuff as money spinners which don't require much thought. Stuff I like doing, is normally something very risky, very experimental and people are bitching at me all the time telling me it's stupid and will never work. But I get a lot more satisfaction in doing it, even if it flops. I think part of the fun of this is that I enjoy the risk rather than straight up cash. Does anyone else find themselves grouping their stuff like this? Take a moment to think about the stuff you do, do you do it because it makes you money or because you actually enjoy doing it? Perhaps you're lucky enough to have both in one venture?
Its just the same with me, I love the creative, creating side of me that does not pay my daily bread.
I think everyone has both sides. Most do something for the money and have something they would love to do instead.
Wise words. I got lucky being addicted to programming and building websites. Who knows, I could have gotten addicted to something else. Like crack or dance dance revolution.
You can't get rich when you do something you love to do. You have to know how to make money with something you love to do. Thats why both of these are very important. Making for money teaches you how to market sites and doing something with love keeps you doing this.
When you love what you are doing, its never work again. And if thats what it is, you are enjoying and loving it. Money will come as a by product of the practice you are into. You can even combine it with The Long Tail theory.
