Yes, You can deposit Dollar cheques in HDFC and SBI, The charges for HDFC are Rs 300 for processing the cheques and for SBI the amount is also similiar,

You can lodge a complaint with the bank officials as why your wire transfer from Sweden was denied, The bank has no authority to refuse your wire transfer, You can lodge a complaint with RBI as well and also with SBI higher officials.

You can deposit checks in any currency in almost all the banks and the exchange rate will vary according to the ongoing rate.
Even direct wire is possible in any bank.

Just keep on thing in your mind that if you are going to deposit US$ check in your local bank account then you have to pay high fees for clearing of that check as well as you have to wait for 25 to 35 days for its clearing (charges and clearing time depends on your local bank).

    DON.

Yes, SBI and HDFC do accept checks in foreign currency. If they are payable in any international bank, there is no processing fee, otherwise, you need to pay some amount as a conversion fee before getting the funds transferred to your savings account.

    hi everyone,

On this post it was suggested that USD wire is more economical and faster than USD cheque deposit. I am totally new with this wire thing. Can anyone please tell me how much it takes to recieve a USD wire in HDFC or ICICI in India. For example if I request a $100 wire and current xchange rate (shown of tv, newspaper n elsewhere) is 1 USD = 49.50 INR, how much should I expect to see in my account and how long does it generally take?

I would be very glad if someone advises me on this.

    Regards,
    Akash
