    Base is your content ..then Link building ,Forum posting (backlinks) and blog comment would be useful for your rank up .

    I think the best and easy way for site ranking is to start with social bookmarking (only in the sites which are PR3 and above), article submitting, commenting on some high rated blogs of your niche. Be a regular visitor and commenter on forums like DP and WF. In short be there, where ever google robots visit frequently :)

    Your content is the key. I have seen sites with zero back links but they are high in PR in Google. Create as much unique content as u can.
