I am looking for a skilled coder that is available for the next week. Strong communication skills and attention to detail is a must. The project will take an estimated 30 hours to complete and about one week of time. Site is written in PHP, most of the coding has been done you are adding features to the design and code. I would like to complete payment after work has been completed due to being scammed in the past. Please contact me with the following:

    • Your Portfolio

    • Your Messenger
    • Your rates (hourly) [if applicable]

Can you be more specific in which your PHP coder would be doing?

It's not a good way to start a business relationship... being suspicious that who you hire may rip you off. If you felt that I was going to rip you off I wouldn't want to be in a business relationship with you; I can't see that being an enjoyable experience for either of us.

Also if someone takes your money and runs; they are committing a criminal offense, not just wronging you; and thus legal action would surely be taken?

That aside I have two questions.

    1. Can you tell us more about the site and the functionality that will be required as the post doesn't tell us what we'd be doing if we got the job.

    2. Would you consider a downpayment; it's pretty much standard form to work like that as it funds the lead-in and there are legal reasons for requesting a downpayment (backing the contract).

    Edit:

You do need to use a certain amount of due dilligence; as you said you've been scammed in the past, this is some serious advice; not just a blurb or rant. I'm not saying you were not genuinely scammed; some scammers are good but you need to protect yourself by being sensible and looking for warning signs, but from my experience and discussions with people on various forms, those that are scammed usually fall into the category of purchasing services from the web design equivelants of the first few examples below.

Lets say you're buying a TV...
    1. You see a guy in a parking lot offering a widescreen TV from the back of his truck... would you buy the TV?
    2. You see a guy in a market offering a $2000 TV for $300 bucks, would you buy it?
    3. You see a shop with offers that are too good to be true; selling electronics at a fraction of their retail value, would you buy the TV?
    4. You see a TV on EBay, says its new and in perfect condition. It's worth $2,000 but the seller is selling for a couple of hundered bucks. Do you trust it?
    5. You go down to your local electronics store, the one thats been there for years. Would you trust them?
    6. You go to the mall, to the department store thats got outlets across the country, do you trust them?

Simple due dilligence you do in your ever day life, but online people are far to easy with their cash.

    1. Look for a portfolio, a valid one with live examples (this is an indicator not only of the developer/designers capability/style but that they deliver)
    2. How long have they been in business?
    3. Do they have valid testimonials to back them up? (i.e. reputation)
    4. Are they offering something thats too good to be true or do they sound realistic?
    5. Do you have an address & phone number for the provider that you can backup?

With point 4; one of the big reasons for developers starting and disapearing is because the project was priced so low they couldn't realsitically complete it. If you tried to have a house built for $40,000 it's most likely going to fall apart if it gets completed at all as its completely a unrealistic venture.

I don't just provide services, I offer them occasionally too and have used methods such as this in the past and I've always been able to pick out the ones I don't trust & the ones I do. I think its unfair to say that nobody can be trusted when in reality, its pretty easy to see a lot of scammers.

Just my 2 cents; if its unwelcome then my appologies.

Complete Payment after work can only be given by someone who has worked with you before many times. I have had people offer me this and then dissapear, Time wasted .. Also if you do follow them they will say no payments were made. Though you can get lucky by finding someone who is good and agrees to your terms ... though i dought it.
