Actually, I am taking an hour to run up my credits on TrafficSwarm and ListJoe. If I had twitter, I'd ask everybody "what are you doing right now?"

    1) What were you doing before you got into IM?
I've always worked in the internet marketing, it was my first job 8 years ago when I had the luck of being hired by a small company with a great internet marketer that showed me all the basics. That company ended up being one of the top 10 online gambling sites after 3 years and was later sold. It was one of the biggest blessings in my life and opened a lot of doors to me.

    2) How long did it take you to break thru and begin making a decent income?
I started my first site 4 years ago and started making a good amount of money after 24 months, after I finally saw that it was possible to really make a living from a web site I kept on working even harder. It was a long road and we are only at the first stage. More than once I was about to give up. In late 2008 together with some friends we decided to start our own SEO company and little by little we are starting to get our brand noticed.

    3) Why are you successful?
Thanks to my first partner I've learned how important is to be patient and never give up. That is the advice I always give to everybody that wants to start any business. Always be ready to wait several months/years before you actually start making money. But once you do start making money it feels great and it becomes an addiction to be working hard for your own bank account!
I've learned to be persistent and work smarter not harder!

    4) What special talents do you have that make you one of the fortunate three percenters?
Nothing much! Learned to be persistent and never give up. I find search engine optimization an entertaining thing to do, I love my job and I enjoy analyzing the search engine results every day. I'm literally addicted to my company, I could live in my office

Nice going, SEOSapien. Success stories like this are the fuel that keep noobs' fires burning.

I have heard this over and over again: "It took two years before I really could make a living at it."

What is magical about this two-year mark? Can't we skip the growing pains and just jump right in with some sort of short cut?

When somebody has been unemployed for years and is down to their last penny, it doesn't help to say "give it a couple years and you'll make it."

    1) What were you doing before you got into IM? Working Construction on a Block Crew as a laborer.
    2) How long did it take you to break thru and begin making a decent income? 6 months.
    3) Why are you successful? What special talents do you have that make you one of the fortunate three percenters? Drive. I cannot stress this enough. DRIVE.

Many people can sit and read ebooks, work a little here and there, throw up a site, and cross there fingers hoping for the best. However, those that succeed are the one's who are never quiet they continue building on top of there business model and expanding.

It's not that hard to get started online, it just takes time.

    Completely agreed!

Anyone that wants to make a living online needs to understand that it will take time, I think we can all agree on that. Maybe a few months maybe 5 years. If you really want to "make it", you really believe in your idea and you are willing to put 100% of your soul into the project the sky is the limit!

The only shortcut is to start with a huge bankroll. If you have enough money to buy the best advertising spaces available (second page of the new york times, superbowl ad, etc) than you'll probably start making millions in a few months. The only other shortcut that comes to my mind is to have friends in the media. if you get the attention of the newspapers, magazines and tv shows you'll start making serious money immediately, but you'll have to be ready to take the work load, calls, orders, etc. or it could actually destroy you.

In the case of our first website since I had monthly expenses and I lived on my own, for the first 24 months I kept my job and I worked on the site every night. Only after the website started generating enough money I left my job and started putting even more effort into it.

I personally don't like asking for anyone to invest in my ideas, if I go down I'd like to go down on my own. So my best recommendation is work on your online business at night and week ends and keep your job, forget about vacations and parties for a few years, once you "make it" you'll be able to travel whenever and wherever you want.

Hey Eliteworx, I checked out your websites. They are awesome.

If it only took you six months to break through, you are a very special fraction of that rare 3%. Kudos to you.

Vinogradov, your site is beautiful and you have a great sense for aesthetic design. I wish you the best of luck.

As for Ganguly155, being from India his options are quite limited but at least he is giving it a go. India is a perfect example of the global reach of the internet, bringing opportunities and hope to otherwise dismal situations.

I tried doing freelance work on Elance but I found that the East Indians frequently snapped up all the jobs with their lower bids. I was forced to give up on competitive freelancing -- I guess they were hungrier than me (literally).

It just has to look professional, a good one would be: "I offer ____ services, check out my site for more information." and make it a link to the site

    - Working for an insurance company. Office-based work, the usual 9-5.
    2) How long did it take you to break thru and begin making a decent income?
    - 2 months. I write articles for other people.
    3) Why are you successful? What special talents do you have that make you one of the fortunate three percenters?
    - I still have a lot to learn. As for talent, I have a huge passion for writing. So I capitalize on that skill to increase my income.

That's quick success, jasonxav -- Nice going!

As a good writer (for hire, and for your own projects), you have an extra advantage. This points out the fact that IM requires expert literary abilities (sales pitches, article marketing, contact with customers, special reports, eBooks, opt-in messages, ad copy, etc.), and if you are quick and effective, that's a highly valuable talent.

Thanks. And may I add, plenty of sleepless nights especially when I have to beat deadlines! I hope I can make this full-time soon so I can ditch my JOB.
