Guys, my canadian buddy wants to sign up, he asked me this but I am not sure how this works. He's got US address but is not working here so no SSN, what info he should provide then?
it's the same thing if he tries to get a job,he's going to need a SSN or TIN/EIN. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf read page 3 part 1.
I see that you're from Canada as well, so basically if he just lives here from time to time he can do it, so he should put his current US address but indicate he doesn't have interest in US activity(would it still be considered " foreign publisher"???).. I'll let him know, hope things work for him, thanks a lot
all i can say is,google is going to want a number. he's not a foreign publisher if his address is in the US. one thing to consider is,changing an address from one country can't be done. you have to close the account and reopen another to have an address in another country. using adsense with a US address is the same as getting a contract job, you'll need to get at least a TIN from the IRS. i'm in no way a tax expert, just what i think.
That's not legal if he is present in the US. Probably the simplest thing is to sign up with his Canadian address next time he's back in Canada. That's still not strictly on the up-and-up but likely to be close enough.
yes, he would be foreign publisher as he is not a permanent resident there and doesn't have a social security card if he is not permanently living there, then he is not a US resident. he is still canadian and the income he generates is subject to tax by revenue canada (CRA), not IRS
If he prefers to use his US address rather than his Canadian address, as implied in the initial question, then he is resident in the USA, probably just not legally.
