Is it better, as far as Search Engine Ranking goes, to spread your data out over many pages or place most of it on just a few?

It doesn't really matter for SEO. Your best bet is to make your content easy to navigate for users.

I am trying to do that and, at the same time, provide a lot of data. My thinking is that spreading this around over several different pages might make it easier to navigate and less confusing. My fear was that it might be be detrimental to my search engine ranking (and for some terms that cannot get any worse).

The more I think about this thread the more I wonder if I asked my question correctly. What I am wondering is should my main page, my index page be the page with the most text? Would it affect my SE ranking if this text is spread over several pages? Should I go ahead, make my main page text heavy, and add additional pages as well even if some become a bit repetitious?

I guess you could try and do one topic per page with around 500 words
