    Hi.
Should I bother to use the KEYWORDS meta tag anymore?
There are relevant search engines that are still using them?

    Thanks.

Keywords are important when it comes to search engine optimization, though don't overdo it by spamming...

Using the appropriate keywords is still an important part of seo, you
    should choose your keywords wisely.

Google and MSN doesn't care about the keyword tag. Yahoo on the other hand will penalized you for not having them. They will index you but you won't get any traffic from them. I tried it on a site last year. The site does very well on Google.

Nothing to loose when putting it, but the most important is the contents and placing keywords within.

Alright, tons and tons of different answers here. It is mostly due to mistranslations I'm sure.

    1) Google, MSN, and Yahoo do use meta keywords, although the amount they actually care is minimal.
    2) Yahoo seems to put the most emphasis on the keywords tag.
    3) Using it for misspellings is OK, just don't over due it.
    4) Google AdSense will sometimes look at the meta keywords to serve you. But of course, if you spam them you will be penalized.

Overall, I usually use it, but don't put too much effort into it. It can honestly hurt you more than help... so to newbies I usually tell just to leave them out.

No, but less seems to work better. I usually go with 10 - 15 and never place a keyword in the tag that is not found in your page copy!

I recommend to use keyword tags, use around 12-14 only, keep in mind that you add those keywords which are there in title and description.

I stop using meta keywords and description tags about 3-4 years ago. I don't see any big effect on Google and MSN for using them. So my main traffic comes from these major search engines (I don't care Yahoo traffic too much).

It would be better if you could put meta description and meta keywords because some search engines still give value those meta tags.

I know a website that has placed around 300!!! keywords in the keyword meta tag on EVERY page of their website (only 3-5% of them appear in the main text of the page) and google hasn't penalized them for this, they even appear in top5 on some keywords they use.

There are lots of "meta tags", if you are talking about "meta keywords" tag then i'd say No its not "very" important as Google + MSN doesn't even look at it...Only yahoo does...

But my point is...There is no harm is having it ! So why not? Its just 1 line of code.
