I set up a new site a week ago and linked it from 2 or 3 pages which are crawled every day. For a NON-COMPETITIVE (German) keyword the new site is now #8 in Yahoo, #4 in msn and #3 in Google. More competitive keywords do not show up yet. Let's wait for some PR. Blo.
It seems to vary, some of my sites are ranking well in a month......one site took 12 months but then it jumped straight to positions 1/5 for some very popular keywords.
Yahoo doesn't have a sandbox, so you can rank high quickly, you need quality backlinks and good onsite seo work. Rss helps a lot, if your site has a feed and is updated regularly yahoo will show some love for sure.
i set up a site took it doen for 2 months for a search term that gets quite a few searches a month and i rank about 12th after 2 weeks and it isnt really linked on that many sites, i think google goes off link backs where as yahoo goes off site content and msn is a mixture of the 2, thats the way ive noticed it anyway with most of my sites
My site is 5 months old. It took me about 2 months to start getting some traffic from Yahoo (but not too much). During the last update (a couple of days ago) I started to receive LOTS of traffic from Yahoo and I'm ranked #1 for my most important KWs. Bottom line: it took me 5 months.
1 month old site. Getting about 400 / day from Yahoo... #4-#10 on several fairly competive keywords.. Things i've done... Link exchange, build backlink through network, directory submission, and in-page optimization. I think yahoo is the one you start with if you just started... and google take some time to get you on first page. Just 2cents
I think it's better to start with MSN. Much faster results. Took me only 2 weeks or so to gain the first places for my top KW.
Normally very fast. Yahoo search listings are based on your contents and don't worry about your link popularity. As strange as this sounds, I am actually preferring Yahoo results, and for years I used Google almost exclusively. MSN loves meta tags and "requires" robots.txt as well.
I've had my site up for about 1 and a half month. And in Google i'm ranked in first page in about 30 keywords (according to my stats), and #1 & #2 in about 17. I'm ranked #1 in a bunch of MSN keywords too, but MSN barely gives any traffic. I check my stats for Spiders, and MSNbot spams me everyday as he index everything over and over, while Google does it every week or every few days. But yahoo only comes once a month, and only indexes my first page according to my stats, the Root of my website. It doesn't seem to follow any links like the other bots. Yahoo Slurp, indexed me so far only about 20 times maybe, MSN has indexed me about 1500 times, and Google about 700. I have not recieved 1 single keyword traffic from Yahoo, which i don't believe i'm ranked in. I haven't used their "add your site" button, so would that have anything to do with it? I find it quite odd that google ranks me very well while yahoo doesn't even index me ever.
My suggestion is not to give unnecessary answers here. You are NOT here to help anybody. If you don't know the answers just keep quiet BTW I strongly recommend this for you
With good SE practices and targeting moderately searched keywords, I'd say around 2 months. You’ll make it into MSN a lot sooner.
Where have you been iamned? I haven't seen you posting here for ages!!! I personally have found Yahoo not as hard as Google to rank well quickly but not as easy as MSN to rank well quickly.
Hi, it took my travel site 6 months to get indexed even. I don't think there are any great problems with the site, because since the last update, I outrank expedia and yahoo travel even for my targetted terms. Maybe it's not a sandbox, like Google's, but there was a definite holding period for me. Just my 2 cents. Paz.
I have 2 sites with 3000 pages each. All very clean with html pages and pure static content and no black hat tricks. one site is 1 year old and only has 400 pages indexed by yahoo. the other is 5 months old and has 700 pages indexed. I personally do believe that Yahoo definately has a sandbox filter of age. Think about it as a business sense for them as well. Why would they put all sites on their free serps when they can ignore some sites until people get frusterated and cough up the $299 Conclusion, MSN- constantly indexing, but only do major indexes every 5 months or so. Yahoo- Long waiting period for entire indexing Google- Sandbox wait period of between 8 and 16 months.
The best way to get some good ranking is inboung links. The more links the faster yahoo, google, and msn index your wensite.
