Do you often scroll down to view the footer of a website? I do & I think a lot of webmasters do for various reasons. I think advertising on footers with a simple text link, even a no-followed text link is a good way to get some traffic.
Yeah, I put my navigation down at the bottom. If I had ads, I would put the best ones there too. People read down the page, and boom right at the bottom is where their eyes stop, so it just makes sense to do that.
My blog footer is just a list of posts with a login link to my admin dashboard. However, I do scroll down to the footer of sites which many average Joe won't. Footer of some sites have many good resources and sometimes it can be a great way of leaving the site or proceeding to other parts of the site.
Yeah I have a google toolbar firefox link on my site & it's getting some good conversions, although very low, but good for the kind of traffic it gets.
If the site is a reference site then I always look at the footer- hopefully it will have links to any legal information or when it was last updated and it's important to know if the information is current. I think that of the people who are actually interested in the content of the page, many look at hte footer.
Footer text link is not good for traffic..but yes..U get backlinks. so, buying footer links on high PR can be beneficial.
If I like a website design, I will most definetely look at the footer, hoping to see "designed by" or "developed by"
I look at it, but the footer means less value than the header of the site I think. The ads at the top is more likely to get clicks I believe as they are normally the first thing the visitors will see. Normally at the footer is where you have the links like "privacy policy - about us - faq - contact us" etc.
But those that do get to the footer are seriously looking for information. Therefore, if your link is the sort of thing expected in a footer you have a good oppertunity.
Yeah, but an ad isnt information or expected in a footer, so you arent going to get masses of people looking at it.
Yeah, but that is where their eyes stop after reading an article, or the site's info. ... And that is where the link and or ad will be, right in front of them, when they are done reading. But, screw it, put 'em in both spots, and on the right side of the footer, as this is where our eyes also tend to drift to.
Yeah the right side is a valid point. But personally, my eyes stop after the article and it's very rare that an article finishes at the footer on websites I view. So I think there is a difference between the end of content and the start of the footer, there is usually a significant space (although only small) that I don't scroll or pay much attention past.
My response is simple. If it's a long page I probably won't explore the bottom (unless it's a very interesting page). I confess to being curious about how they wrap up the page, though. John
