No. Most people think it is though because people don't watch men's soccer as much in the U.S. as women's.

Yes it is. With girls the two big sports are soccer and softball followed by basketball, swimming, tennis, etc. For boys, many play soccer when really small but the big sports by high school are football, basketball baseball followed by soccer, wresting, track, tennis, golf, swimming and lately la crosse.

It's funny when I get around the licensed coaches they all are about 5'8" tall (1.7m) and this goes for both male and female. The bigger male athletes end up in other sports while the best women athletes stick with soccer.

I love both sports; football and, er, football. I certainly don't think one is 'better' than the other. What do you prefer? Chalk or cheese?

Yeah, 5'8" to 5'10" is about the ideal height for a 'world football' player. (sorry, you know I can't use the 'S' word!). When I was growing up I was bigger, stronger and faster than a lot of boys my age and probably the ideal sport for me would have been Rugby. However my school only played football (Rugby being too upper-class) so I had to settle for being a big, strong, fast footballer. Obviously those are useful attributes and I 'did a job' to use the parlance - but ultimately I was crap because I didn't actually possess anything approaching footballing ability. I could frequently be made to look stupid by boys whose heads I was physically capable of shoving down a toilet bowl.

It's that skill element, the fact you can be 5'2", 133 lbs and still be a world-class player that is one of the attractions of football. Bigger isn't always better.

If you had developed the skills equal to the little guy, I'd pick you over the toilet head.

I wonder what Steve Nash would be doing for Canada and some club if he picked his other favorite sport instead of basketball. He is a small basketball player at 6'3" but he has amazing sense of the game and knows what his teamates will be doing before they do.

Here's a bit of his foot skills:

Too bad a kicked ball in basketball equals a loss of possession. :)

I have called this debate football vs gridiron as gridiron is the international name for american football, which is a code of handball and not football.

It seems these anti football debates arise in the usa every second day. Whereas in the uk we have no such debates, football is number one as far as team sports go and that will not be changing soon.

Some one once said the most popular sport was hating football sadly this is true. Americans thought their sports would spread around the world like coca cola or mcdonalds however only basketball has done so.

This clearly gets up the noses of yanks and they constantly insult football in the most absurd ways. "Soccer sucks" websites have even been set up by bitter american journalis, they seem oddly obsessed by the worlds number one sport.

Football on the other hand keeps growing and dominating the sporting world and will continue to do so.

Get over it yanks I respect people who accept defeat in the sports world far more than those who cry, insult and make up excuses.

Football 6 vs 0 gridiron, baseball, obesity and inferiority complex.

    I am through here, thanks.;)
