When food has a use by date, is it safe to use it on that day too, so if the packet says 29th of this month would you use it still on 29th or throw it away? Regarding meat, sausages, safe if i use them today? 29th August (UK)
I don't eat meat, so that's one potentially life threatening decision I'll never have to make. I eat food right up until (and including) the used by date, but as soon as the clock strikes midnight, then they're in the bin. Some of my meat eating friends live by the simple rule of "if it doesn't stink, then eat it" They've eaten some evil looking stuff, and lived to tell the tale. Just make sure you cook your snags well enough to kill anything that might be living inside them.
I know it can still be consumed for a few days after the expiry date. It won't just taste as good but it's still relatively safe to eat.
Ofcourse you can, its only a guideline, I have ate things that are well over 1 week past the date on packet. it all depends on what food it is also, if its meat you can pretty much tell by looking at it if its edible.
I would have to agree with you quote, I have used stuff passed its due date and its still been ok just depends on what it is.
Depends what it is. If it looks OK and has been refrigerated then go for it. Especially like sausages, you cook them so any bacteria gets killed, right? If it was milk though I wouldn't bother. No need for use by date, you can smell when its off
