What do you think of starting Food/ Restaurants Review site (like zomato.com foursquare.com yelp.com ) ? Main revenue will be from ads, commissions but I imagine will need to hit a huge volume of traffic/users to start making good money (more than $5K per month). Which means there will be long gestation period of little or no revenue since focus will be to build up users base. Plus how do you compete in a competitive market which has big dominant players like zomato, foursquare, yelp etc.? Maybe target a smaller specific niche to differentiate from existing players? Thanks in advance for any comments
Yes, have a more specific niche. That way you can target the audience that you might want. Also in doing reviews you have to know what you're talking about, of course and people who do read reviews take them very seriously.
If your product is as good or even better than the other ones, you have every chance of making it ;-) Of course, it all depends if your are able to promote your business the right way.
The 'review' webpage market is already full of some pretty big fish, I don't know if it would be in your best interest to start in there. However, if you do,I agree with Milliardo, find a niche where you focus your ratings and roll with it. Maybe something like "find the best _____ food in your area".
Yea this would be a good strategy if you are willing to work hard and to put the efort to outbeat your competititon .Also it was good to search for majotiry of restaurants etc that they dont have websites optimized for mobile ,this its an important aspect of business as many clicnts search on theyr mobile .And many business would accept to optimize theyr site for mobile because they know mobile search its important now
Yes, that is a better strategy as it would make things more focused. If there are large restaurant review sites already out there, and they are popular, competing with them would be pointless unless you have something that would make it better (like being witty, for instance or you have a different viewpoint on things). Otherwise, find a niche that others might have overlooked or that people don't focus much on. You just might find your audience there.
What specific content do you'd like to post on the site? I believe if you want to have more traffic you need to have something that other food websites dont have.
