What are your views regarding following trends in the field of logo designing. Some professional logo designers are against it, while some go with it. The major demerits of following trends according to some designers is that removes the element of timelessness and originality from the logo. What do you think?

I think looking around for inspiration is a good way to start. Like stated above its all what the client needs. Look for designs that can give you a boost in creativity, and then go from there. Pencil and paper also helps too start off too.

Even a lot of the big corporate brands change up their logo from time to time to stay modern. I think it's totally acceptable to follow the trend. It's the easy way out, but it's acceptable.

if you have a close deadline, and no original idea, follow the trend - and sell the logo as being in touch with the modern times.
if you have a brilliant idea, go with it, and sell it as avangard, fresh, new, exciting...

depends on how you sell the logo... disregarding trends, your logo should be simple and to the point...IMHO
