Great site for following the Florida Hurricane is below, if you know of any other storm chaser sites or news sites that follow the weather conditions please post them in this thread.

I am on the Gulf Coast of Florida South of the State of Alabama, the link below is from Central Florida (Orlando area).

Sitting here in the safety of the Med. have seen the tragic situation on TV. Out thoughts are with all those who have family affected.

When I saw the post title I thought it was referring to last November's G Florida and what will undoubtedly come around its anniversary.

What country are you in Jenny?

Yes Global warming is responsible for much of the weather changes, ice melting on the North and South Poles, higher water levels, destruction of the ozone and a lot of other stuff.

Get your Florida Property now in the Mountains of Alaska. At least you will be above sea level down the road.

100 years from now Florida could be under water. It could become many islands with high ground only above the water.

Get your own island, buy the hilltops in Florida now

You should move down here to avoid hurricanes. There haven't been any in history.

Oh, btw, here, in Ottawa, temperature goes down to -35C (-50C with the windchill factor) in the winter. Wanna trade homes? ;)

As a survivor of Hurricane Andrew, I greatly empathize with Floridians. After experiencing PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) every year during hurricane season, my husband and I and several other family members decided to move to the high ground. We considered New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada and decided on Las Vegas - which we all feel was a terrific choice. One of the factors is that it is 2,163 feet above sea level.

While Florida is a beautiful state and we loved living in our waterfront condo, during bad storms I often envisioned a huge wall of water crashing over us. I hope this does not happen to my friends, neighbors and clients still in Florida.

Good luck, Floridians. Stay safe and dry! :)

Hey guys, can you answer a questio for me about Florida property and hurricanes.

What happens to all the vacation properties when a Hurricane approaches? Who sorts out their storm shutters, etc.?

My brother-in-law wanted me to buy a Florida property with him, and we'd have it rented out. I was a little concerned about being thousands of miles away from the property should anything go wrong.

Do the management companies go dashing around closing shutters and boarding up the properties?

Shutters may keep stuff from flying in windows, but in a direct hit by a hurricane or a tornado the shutters will be scattered in the wind with the rest of the house.

The main thing is to try to keep the stuff you own insured.
