Folders and Ads - a feature suggestion to solve Campaign Spaghetti

The Campaign / Ad Group structure turns out to be arbitrary and
cumbersome more and more. I keep having to manually clone a campaign
simply to throttle campaign-specific feaures. Or ad group.

Wouldn't it be grand if there were simply: folders and ads. And
folders could be arbitrarily nested, as file folders. Then I could
structure logically. To any folder or ad I should be able to apply, in
    a cascading hierarchy:

    • Max CPC
    • site exclusion
    • URL
    • schedule

...and all the other great features that are now chained to a Campaign
or an Ad Group or an Ad.

    Yes I agree with you.

This is a missing feature in AdWords - hope that they introduce it soon.

I have my own API application that clone an entire campaign in seconds - but this also is not ok due after it I need to reflect any change manually in both campaigns and the statistics and quality score power became divided in 2 different points.

The best that we can do now is to contact AdWords requesting this feature and wait they implementing it - I already saw a couple of users asking about it.

    Hey Guys,

May be I am silly. But I want to make some clone of my ad groups in a campaign in other campaign.

Do I have to do this manualy. Or is there any other way to do that.

Jesus, imagine if Google implemented this with Ajax and some nifty DHTML! This gets my vote

You can create an API do that.

I've created an API that clone a entire campaign in seconds (except the Graphic Ads).

Any chance of you releasing this API call? ;)

Speaking of which though, is the AdWords API tricky to learn?

I could provide the code, but only make sense if you know API.

AdWords API is not hard if you already know Php.

if you decide to learn AdWords API go also to Apility that is an open source lib that makes things easier

Hi Micromag. Be careful of investing too heavily in API apps as Google are going to charge for access to their API in a couple of months. I really hope they leave the free developers tokens though.

    Yes very true.

I'm not invest much time in it - I just use for some script tasks like clone campaigns or upload lot of image ads into several ad groups.

thanks for the concern and Hope they give up from this idea too.

If it's similar to PHP I should be fine. Thanks for that!

Download the Google AdWords Editor for free.

It lets you duplicate ad groups etc., just by copying and pasting.

I managed to completely restructure one of my campaigns today in about 4 hours; spliting about 10,000 keywords into about 200 more tightly targeted groups.

It's still in Beta, but I didn't encounter a single bug all day!
