Your computer seems to be virus infected. I've also faced the exact problem in the past.

if you dont want to edit the registry as mentioned above by cpanel you can download trojan remover and scan your system. It automatically detects your folder options being changed and brings it to normal :)

Your computer is probably infected with a variant of Autorun worm . This worm will block folder options ,command prompt an MS config options so that you can't get rid of the infection . It is recommended to format your Windows .Else follow this tutorial to manually remove autorun virus infection .

Don't try editing registry if you are not sure what you are doing. Try other methods as suggested and then finally go for editing registry if none of them works.

    Hi There

The malware removal / prevention guide on my sig will remove it as well as provide you with ideas on how to prevent this sort of thing.

I would edit the registry unless you know what you are doing and back it up with ERUNT beforehand should anything go wrong. But if you don't know what your doing then I'd leave this option.

    Any questions just ask.

you need to edit the registry

    1. Click “Start” -> “Run…” (or press Windows key + R)
    2. Type “regedit” and click “Ok”.
    3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
    Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
    4. Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key.
    5. Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
    6. The “Show hidden files & folders” check box should now work normally. Enjoy!

    Hi Guys

I checked this guys PC via remote control and it was infested with viruses / malware with no anti-malware / spyware software on and an expired trial version AV.

    Maybe that explains it.

Needs a bit more work than Regedit.

    Regards
