FM Clients getting disconnected every morning now?

Shawn, is there a log or something to help us figure out why everything gets disconnected some mornings when we come into the office? Even the Webserver is closed down. We are running FMServer on 2000, Unlimited on 2000, and clients on XP, 2000, and 98, OG 3.3.4.

the only error message we get on the clients' screen is an fm "communication has been interrupted".

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

Do you have your database server setup to automatically disconnect idle guests?

No, I made sure that wasn't checked under FM Server Console Properties already thinking the same thing. I have also re-indexed files, upgraded, and still have it happening occasionally.

You probably will need to call FileMaker tech support on that one. There is nothing within Optigold itself that could cause it. It's strange though, I have systems that might sit idle for a week and they don't get bumped. Is it happening at a specific time of the day as far as you can tell?

It's randomly happening, but when it disconnects one client, it disconnects them all. It just happened right now when running a script event, it says "Communication with the host was interrupted and could not be re-established (-20)". Google searches are not helping, I replaced the switch that the server and Unlimited connect to. All clients are on the same subnet, not going through any router, and are all internal to firewall.

    Any other ideas.

Does the FileMaker Server event log say anything?

Event Viewer shows "User "xxxx" no longer responding, connection closed. (17)". I will check the NIC on the server since it's happening to all clients, I'm not sure what else would cause it, it's not that big of a deal for us, but it's knocking the Customer web interface offline too.

    The saga continues...

I tried replacing the NIC in the server, and the problem still exists, I replaced the switch a couple of times as well.
I disconnected the tape drive and backups to make sure there weren't any files being locked.
I updated everything all service packs, drivers, etc, did another recover on all files, re-indexed OG.
I contacted Filemaker, and they asked if I maybe have a corrupted file. I don't think I have the capability to check that, can you. They wanted me to ask you if you could check to see if any files are corrupted and move our data into a new set of clean files (sounds like you have to have adminstrative priveliges in order to do that and I don't think I do, right). Is that something you can do?

I hate to have to move all this stuff onto a new server just to test a theory, because it's been running so well for several years, and the server is still running great, Dual PIII 933 dedicated to FMServer 5, runs practically idle the majority of the time. I have plenty of other servers to put all this stuff on, but would prefer not to have to spend all the time rebuilding it if there was some other fix that I could try.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

You can put everything in a known clean set of data files by doing an upgrade (even if it's from/to the same version).
