    Hi, DPers!

Im confused about using floating banner ads menu some say yes google allow floating banner while it doesn't cover any content and others say no!
Can I use a floating banner ads menu with close button and the banner don't cover any text?

Example - smartcarfinder.com and many others.

    Google Rules:
How is it ok for them?

Google's policies are crystal clear in this case:

what about in a div positionned absolutely at a fixed place, not covering any other part of the page? Just making sure the ad unit is always visible even when scrolling down the page.
Does anyone knows of an official answer to that?

Don't think that is allowed. I knew an individual who did that on a proxy site, and was banned. But he could also have been banned because the content he was displaying was not his, since it was a proxy.

Yes, proxies sites are well known to be a reason to be banned when the webmasters put adsense on a page displaying the proxied url. Their only solution is to put adsense only on the homepage of the proxy site.

This is allowed and not allowed. Not directly from my experience but from my observation of other sites.
Some popular sites have been using this and Google seems to be ok with it however it does contradicts with the float box rule.

Does this answer your question? :D

Hi, I've read the thread, well they still have it that way since november last year, but yes those are not adsense code exactly, but still come from Google.
Anyway, the fact that in the adsense tos it says to not : "Place ads in a floating box script." doesn't mean we can't have it as a absolute fixed div.. It could mean the floating box script that is used most commonly for newsletter purposes, which darkens the page and put the floating box right in the middle of the screen..
You know, I also assumed this short sentence meant no floating div AT ALL. But when I see how they translated the "no gambling or casino related content" (see my signature link) I'm not sure about anything now.. :)
But I know asking them directly will lead me nowhere, I've already asked stuff directly over the years and if it's to receive a reply 2 weeks later with a vague copy&paste of the tos which doesn't answer any of my questions, it's not worth it..

Not a lot more to be said really. The Google instruction is very clear on this type of thing.

Well you can always take the small risk of having your 9 years old Adsense account banned and then open a new thread here to share the info. :D
All in the name of science. Got to experiment it first, right.
Me, I am just observing other sites and they seem to be ok with it. Also I can't phantom why Google won't allow it. It just basically drags the ads downwards, not really forcing the users to click or covering any certain text or content.

Yes, I think we're talking about a very small risk here, because if I do it, then there will be some time before they catch it, and if it's against their rules they'll just send a warning email giving 72hours, or if they're not nice, they'll disable the ads, stating the reason and giving me a chance to appeal (after correcting the issue)

I'm sure it can increase the CTR of that particular ad unit, but.. yes one day I think I'll have one on one of my site.. Perhaps one day they will clarify what they mean by giving examples like they did for gambling or adult content, etc.. in their help pages.
