Well google aint followed all the links in this 'naughty' odp directory....cos there are obviously millions. But I had a few 302s so I can't put it down to the odp ones.
302 handling is a major technical flaw in Google's algo's. I really don't understand why they don't fix these issues. A lot of these webmasters who do the 302's don't even know it's that bad. And it's hardly a crime is it? Just because Google made it so it has devastating effect, this 302ing got real bad.
They way I understand it is that the higher PR root domain 'wins'. So with a PR9 site you can hijack almost all other sites. With a PR3 site you won't be able to inherit a PR5's pages though.
Can I give you all my comps ? Funny thing is I still have my PR6 - all my comps are 4s and 5s , so maybe .....
Anyway none of this helps the OP. There is no way around this problem. There's no way of stopping or blocking it. Google have found that site and replaced yours with his. Shame on him. You can contact them and ask them to remove it, send a cease and desist. The only fast way is to send a DCMA to google. Highlight the fact his cache shows your copyrighted content and his domains is showing in the place of yours. Send a DMCA to him and his hosts too for good measure, it can't hurt. Best of luck.
But that's the weird thing though. It's not necessarily malicious intent from the redirector's part. Cease and desist threats won't help much initially. Unless it's a competitor doing it to you, I'd assume innocence and just (like I have done twice now) send them a polite e-mail with links to the appropriate sources and evidence of the harm done. If they then won't cooperate, strike back. The only thing Google has to do with it is their flawed functionality.
Roadies, If these 3 redirects are in fact the problem, you may be able to remove these links: http://linkfilter.net/?search=modernjackass&id= Good luck, Roger
Everyone - Thanks for all the help and attention to this problem. I had no idea that 302's had that bad an effect on the site. Sad thing is, looks like I created my own monster. Isn't that always the case? You think something is terribly wrong, get upset, and start pointing fingers. Then, to only find out you were the source of the problem. Sheesh, no wonder our race hasn't evolved to higher level of conscienceness. You all have been perfect help in assisting me highlight the problem. I truly appreciate all your assistance and suggestions.
Fair point on the polite email. I was assuming it was malicious, of course there is every possibility they simply want to track the number of exit hits etc. AFAIK you can hit g with the DMCA cos the cache contains your copyrighted content/images etc.
How were you the source of the problem? Is the 302 domain yours? I'm lost? You're welcome on the help, I hope you sort it all out.
I'm a member of linkfilter.net - I posted those links. However, I've posted to many other sites too and they don't seem to have been affected at all.
I found this helpful blog article on 302 problems & solutions: http://www.seotoday.com/browse.php/category/articles/id/477/index.php StacyO
Sorry, that didn't come out right. Meant that I post links to many other sites through LinkFilter.net. It's a forum where you post and rate interesting links of the day.
