Flippin Affiliate Redirects Banned My Site

    Fucking fuck!

Just found out that my affiliate redirects, using Javascript redirects, got my site banned!

    Sample:
    <a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=18602&amp;U=15064&amp;M=5108" target="_top" onmouseover="window.status='http://bustedtees.com';return true;" onmouseout="window.status=' ';return true;">
    Code (markup):
Looks like I'm going to have to use my own redirect code. Not a bad thing, probably should do it anyway and I can grab exit traffic too. But just fucking sucks! This site in particular won't be in Google for the next few months only because of my javascript redirects.

All other SEO's - be careful of the mouseover javascript, it's considered "deceptive redirects" and any SEO worth their shit will report you on it through Google's SPAM report. Turns out, I was the last to find out. (about this type of redirect anyway).

are you saying that the mouseover got you banned?

and, who told you that was the reason?

Google uses mouseovers on the adwords links! So, it does not make since that they would ban you for that.

That wouldn't be why you were banned. CJ.com and most otehr affiliate managers offer it as a method of linking as well.

I also would like to know what led you to the conclusion that this code was the cause of your current difficulties.

And BTW, those T-shirts are hilarious. ;-)

My adsense ads on the site were shut down too. I'm in a world of hurt.

Only thing I can think of is those redirects. Everything was fine until this month. I suspect a competing SEO webmaster reported me for those, since they could be "technically" suspicious. I already sent in a help request and I'll use the adsense and cj as an argument if they say that is what it is.

Devalued maybe, but a site ban - I really doubt it.

Besides, I use them myself. :)

    Cheers,

Seems like you're jumping the conclusions a bit and with an awful lot of F words to go with it.

    What's the URL?

I'm telling you, it's a ban. I had a PR of 3 and about 300 pages indexed and 2500 backlinks in december. As of January 18th, I have 0 PR, 0 pages indexed, and 0 recognizable backlinks, and haven't been crawled since then when I used to be crawled almost daily. If that's not a ban, I don't know what is. I agree I jumped to conclusions on the links and used profane and vulgar language, and I apologize for that, I was so floored by the discovery that I couldn't think straight. I still think it's the links because I have no other idea what it may be.

My adsense has also stopped displaying ads, although I don't think the site is banned from the adsense program, just that adsense uses the main google index as part of equation of what to display on a page. I think if adsense banned me, they'd ban me at the account level, not just one of my domains. (dunno though, never happened).

The URL is here. I'm so baffled as to why it happened that any ideas beyond the javascript links will be definitely welcomed.

I see adsense ads just fine on your site. Also, adsense does NOT use the main google index as part of the equation of what to display on a page.

Having said that, yeah, you look banned. Too early in the morning for me to figure out why yet (need more coffee), but I'll look at it more later and see if I see anything.

I would be looking more at possible links to bad neighborhoods though, but we'll see what shows up.

Perhaps google game along and your site was down. Cos I can't access it now!

    (edit) OH it finally worked.

I don't mean to alarm you but if you do

    site:modernjackass.com

in google you get these domains:

    1) linkfilter.net/?id=60416;cmd=go
    2) www.miscellaneology.net/vers2/redirect.php?id=1719
    3) 63.251.19.116/?id=60416;cmd=go

Doing a header check on them you get:

    302's are nasty.

    Read this:
    http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum23/3682.htm
    and this:
    http://www.loriswebs.com/hijacking_web_pages.html

    Good luck

(edit) just noticed the 1st and 3rd link are actually the same thing

    Excellent find Jayess.

Might well be the cause indeed. Fully agreed, 302's are horrible.

Firstly roadies you really need to look at your site, or the company hosting it. It's down again or INCREDIBLY slow. If it's like that when google comes you're stuffed.

The hosting is a massivly important factor that people miss when doing seo.

Leeds1 not sure if this helps, I assume you've tried it?

The ones that linked to me were dmoz affiliates/rip offs. Whatever you might call them.

They bacially take the whole of the dmoz db and 302 to all sites...

I've asked dmoz, you're not allowed to request to be out of the db, and the sites wont take the links down.

    I've thrown the domain away.
