I made a little website. I'm petrified of flying, although I still do it. Twice last year and once this year being from the UK it's not hard to not have to fly I'd hate to live on a big continent like the states... www.flightdeaths.com I'd love your comments, the site is not done and never will be. It's a horrible data entry project I now need to go through and add longitude and latitude points for all crashes, and find photos for as many as i can. The site - for the most part is done. My questions for you. What could I add? Is it easy to navigate? Do you immediately understand what the site is about? The forum, what catagories? How you could help me if you're feeling generous: Please: Blog it Link to it Post in the forums (getting any forum started is damned hard work, find a crash that interests you - is near you and comment on it, ask questions, offer opinions..... Digg it http://digg.com/links/Flight_deaths_database._It_s_NOT_safe_to_fly Serious about helping? I'd love data management for the site. People who would be willing to add crashes etc...
I think there is already very established site something called airdisasters. I browed that site when I saw movie Air Disaster movie
For you images at http://www.flightdeaths.com/?page=photos You may want to put thumbnails. Currently, loading time is slow.
The text is too light. You have the words 'interesting plane crashes', think of a family member of someone who died in one of the crashes reading that, might not be very nice for them. Is there a more tactful way that you could word it? Overall its a great topic, do you ever watch Air Crash Investigation? It's fantastic. There was the case of the russian pilot who let his son fly the plane, within minutes they crashed and were all dead.
Something about the site makes it seem like plane crashes is a sport too. Since it doesn't really do much but offer stats...seems like you could do more. See which outfits have higher or lower crash chance. Something like that.
How is the grey text now? I made it darker... I've got lots in mind for the stats, I'm not trying to make it look like a sport. It's something I've kept at the back of my mind that whilst I'm playing with numbers these are peoples lives - real people who died I'm scared of flying, not so much as it prevents me from doing it....Although it always seems SO unnatural to me. If man were meant to fly god would have given us wings
Not the cheeriest of subjects, but couple of things for you: Stanley Kubrick never flew in aeroplanes I believe, this was after having flying lessons. Not sure if he got his licence or not. Also a plane crash features in the excellent movie 'Intacto', it's a film about luck. A chap survives a plane crash, the odds of this happening are very slim indeed.
