You should take a look at http://dev.twitter.com/anywhere This is a simple Javascript-based way of integrating Twitter into websites.
You really do not need OAuth for "Twitter Anywhere". All you need to do for "Twitter Anywhere" is including a bit of Javascript into your website. Everything else is pre-made.
I was questioning whether or not to do that when I'm coding. But that would cause a PHP file to be made for the stats catcher which would only make it easier for people to hack the site.
The "Twitter Anywhere" does all the authentication for you. The only thing you'd need to care about is the propper integration a few lines of Javascript with your Twitter application key into your website. You do not even have to set up another gateway PHP page or something similar. I've made a couple of tests with Twitter Anywhere for my own website as well and it works perfectly.
