I bought tymebomb.com, and I made it a flash gaming site. I get somewhere around 5 to 10 thousand visits/month, and it peaked at 15 thousand visits/month. I just took off ads, and am expecting a jump in traffic. The domain has been active for about 10 years, and for almost every combination of "tyme", "bomb", and "games", I am the first hit on google. I am looking at selling it, but I have no idea what it is worth. I have gotten estimates from about $100 to $18,000. Does anyone have a general idea of how much my domain is worth?
Well, you took off the ads, which wasn't a good idea if you're looking to sell. It really depends on your revenue and traffic. How it was for the past twelve months, the trend (up/down), etc. Looking at the site... it was registered January 09, 2011, so at some point it was dropped (so your statement "The domain has been active for about 10 years" seems odd). Well, it needs a visual improvement. A lot of games link to mcleodgaming.com, so I'm not really seeing anything legitimate or of real value. Not in its current state and with the information available.
I guess that statement wasn't quite true, but most domain appraisal sites tell me it has been active for 10 years. Also, with the ads, I was making pennies. It took me almost 4 months to get $20. Lastly, with the links: there is only one link to the site you mentioned, and one on every page to my YouTube channel. I do admit, my site looks really bad, and I need to improve it. Do you have a $ estimate though?
There are a LOT of links to that site on this page: http://tymebomb.com/GamesSection/index.html Sure, it has a history in archive.org previous registrar history, but not in the current in whois, which is what really matters. Ignore the automated domain appraisal sites as they are wildly inaccurate. You're always better off asking on forums. Current dollar value? Nothing, although traffic might change that. Well, the domain (and at least one of its pages) has site links so there is some trust with Google at least. But it needs a lot of development to be worth something. Improved visually, better navigation, monetize it properly. Ask in one of the other forum sections about affiliate programmes about how to best monetize this kind of site (which isn't Adsense, I guess you tried it). Or maybe even direct advertising if the traffic is good. Once developed, it really depends on your revenue, how steady it is and how long the site has been consistently earning for. Ask for an appraisal then.
