I think Flash is incredible and love what it can do, but when someone thinks it's the almighty and is the answer for everything...that's a problem. I was cruising website promotion forum and came across this comment from someone who compares static sites to horse carriages and Flash sites to Porches. It's concerning as both have their places...it's not about one being better than the other in every situation. That kind of attitude is counter-productive for everyone who builds and uses the web.
That Tony T sounds like s/he's never been on dial-up. I've gotten so babied with high-speed internet here in Europe, I forget that I shouldn't bother sending YouTube links to people in the States who I know have dial-up. After waiting a half hour to download the video, they then find that something got corrupted and only half will play.
Yup, Toni T sounds like she's never been on dial-up and it's also a bad time of the month for her. I bet she's one of the culprits talking people into long-winded flash intros. I noticed no one has the balls to respond to her...I mighht have to .
Unfortunately, it's a common practice to close minds to other opportunities or solutions. The sad thing is that once you think you know everything, you stop learning. I don't know if it's driven by fear or is all about having a big ego.
Flash is great and can look awesome, but if your at all concerned about accessibility (and search engine rankings) then you'll know to either stay away from it or provide a html alternative.
Exeneva, can you push that one through and make it policy ? I came across three Flash intros today and bailed on each one of them! Hey, neat poll question...
I work with Flash many years and we have created many full flash sites but unfrotunately it's not so good for SEO so people prefer to use only small flash elements or don't use it at all
I totally love good looking flash sites, but I prefer static pages cause I think it fits more as a website
