Flash and SEO

I know that having a page in Flash is not a good thing for SEO. I've read that having Flash at the top of a page, like in a large banner, isn't good either, because Google wants to see content at the beginning of the page instead of lots of code.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes flash is not a good idea for seo. It is a bigger problem when an entire website is built with flash or the navigation is a flash file. Google claims to be able to read flash files, but I'm sure this process is far from perfect.

It is ideal to have keywords near the top of your content, but it is not the end of the world if you have a flash banner first. You likely won't drop in rankings because of that. If you have enough quality backlinks, minor things like that do not matter. If you are concerned about this, there are tricks such as css absolute positioned divs that allow you to lay the code out in the order you want, regardless of onpage position.

Making a flash site is not good for seo point of view, it can make make it more lively and interactive. You can still optimize a flash site, but it requires more time. Html sites are easier to link build.

Google has announced that it has begun indexing the flash sites and is working with Adobe to build a solution that will help in indexing the flash websites in the near future. as for now, don't use flash too much on your website. even if you are using it then do add some alternative content to it

If you want only attractive web design use flash but if you want search engine friendly and user friendly website then avoid using heavy flash files.

    Thanks

I think you should keep the banner shorter to limit the usage of flash and use sitemap to let google learn about the structure of your website and to increase coverage of your pages.
