The majority of Internet users don't even know what's an ad and what's not -much less how to block them. I wouldn't consider the average slashdotter a "normal" Internet user.
Agreed, Cornelius has the rights to block flash Ads if he wants like others but I think that he represent ~0,1% of the web. I want also to say thank you very much to all of you for the very hot topic! Now I have a very good idea of the flash ads market!! Thanks all!
Hey cornelius, don't confuse slashdot with the majority of the internet... the majority of the internet has trouble plugging in a printer. Slashdot is a full on nerd-fest of hardcore and tech savvy internet users, many of whom have been online since before the web... .big big difference. Again, don't confuse the preference of experienced and tech savvy users with 'what works online' regarding advertising. Plenty of highly educated and critically thinking individuals can't stand infomercials on TV. Doesn't stop them being a multi billion dollar success though does it It's also hard to say anything in general about 'Flash advertising' because its like saying, does jpg outpull gif? It depends on the content. My belief is that in general though it is a superior medium. And now that I've realised adwords run flash (doh!!) I'm off to get some content built and tested
