Hi all, I am a bit of a noob with flash but had a crack creating a 3d spinning globe / world the other night. Anyone have any ideas on how it can be improved. Feel free to download the .fla source from my website its just over 1MB. It's pretty good. You should remove the circle outline, that's what makes it look 2D...and add some shadows...have a look here: http://flashden.net/item/spinning-3d-earth-globe/15856

Actually I think this one was made using Swift3D or something similar. Swift3D is a nice software, not hard to use when you know flash, and you can export real 3D animations to swf files (frames)...it is just a little bit bigger in terms of kb, 168kb for the FD globe, which in terms of a vector animation is a bit big, but still not so much for the result! However, you can still get good results doing it straight in flash, just a bit more work on the lightning and shadows ;-)
Thanks for the input higreg7. I was wondering how the flashden globe looks so good. I think I will stick to trying to perfect this in flash itself for the moment. Will keep you guys posted when I have a little more time to play with it.

Looks very cool Yesideez directly in the browser. I have attempted another globe without the outside edge as suggested. Looks much better. I will continue to improve. Any more suggestions are appreciated... Thanks for the help guys.
I recreated the globe all in flash instead of importing an image with gradient. The result is a much cleaner effect. higreg7 i am still yet to add your version. Apologies for the delay. Will get it up asap.
HI Greg, Yeh i have added some new stuff and will try to do so on a weekly basis. I am currently working on a new slide show flash tutorial. It's coming along quite well. I noticed that the downloads on your globe have taken over my original. Well DOne!
