I decided to put together a few tips for the other Fansite Webmasters out there :)

    1. Update Regularly

The same applies to all kind of sites, but especially for fan sites. Visitors don't want to be finding outdated news. A successful fan site is a website which is regularly updated with news, articles or any other content. News is imprortant though, because if a visitor stumbles upon your fan site and finds some interesting exclusive news, they'll be sure to come back for more.

    2. Lipstick.com

Lipstick.com is a great website to get your site noticed. In conjunction with step 1, this can be a killer. Lipstick.com is like the Digg for celebrity news, except a lot easier to get on the PR7 front page. If you have a regularly updated site, and submit your news posts to Lipstick you're traffic will increase by a lot. The first news article I submitted to Lipstick got me over 500 uniques with in a couple of hours. Not only is it good for sending direct traffic, but I believe the more news you submit, the stronger your profile becomes, which could lead to some valueable backlinks to your site.

    3. Video Marketing

Depending on what kind of celebrity your fansite is related to, the effectiveness of this step varies. Singers and other music artists work best for this, and I can imagine actors/actresses work a treat too. All you have to do, is use Windows Movie Maker to create movie clips related to your celebrity. I.E. Music Videos, Movie Trailers, Tributes. Include the address of your webpage at the beginning and the end of the movie, and also in the summary box. Then upload the clips to movie/media websites, especially YouTube. Eventually if you post enough videos, they should not only drive you traffic but also provide you with a strong channel which will include a live link to your website. This one works great for me because I'm also a DJ and create a lot of Tupac remixes :D

    4. Create a Forum

One thing 99% of fans have in common, is they want to bond. The reason they are searching the net for your celebrity, is because they want to meet others like themselves who share the same views. Forums are great for this, because it gives users that 'Home' feeling and since the members will have a lot in common it will create a great community. Eventually, regularly active members will be posting the news and content for you! From the hundreds of members, there is bound to be atleast one member who knows more than you. One member who has a source you don't. I have a member who get's news that is so exclusive, you won't see it on another fansite for atleast a week. Rather than ask him for his sources, I offered him the place of being an Editor for the site and $5 per post. His answer? No, he will do it for his love for Tupac.

    5. Stay Loyal

People will create fan sites for different reasons. I can imagine one of the main reasons being for money. My reason, is because I am a fan myself. I can assure you the most successful fansites are for the fans, by the fans. If you don't already, now would be a good time to learn about your celebrity. It is important visitors and members percieve your website as an authority. They don't want to find a few pictures and the same old bio that is on every other site. You need to show them you know what you're talking about. If you have a forum, post regularly as a normal member would. Not just once a month with site updates. Holding competitions and contests is also a good way. Several methods to reinforce your visitors trust in your site, and to support your authority and loyalty.

I hope this helped some of you out. Good Luck :)
