Anyone know a rough guesstimate on the likeliness for generating a click on new visits versus repeat visitors. I have heard from several sources that your main output in 'clicks' is the first time visitor, this is because: 1. New visitors haven't developed ad blindness, and are not used to the design of the webpage to automatically tune out your ads (another good placement technique is to check on what everyone else is doing, and do the opposite to avoid blindness) 2. New Visitors have no idea where your ads are placed and what they are going to include. (back to placement, etc.) 3. New Visitors do not know where everything is located, so with the right amount of blending, you may convince the new visitor that this is where they are supposed to click. Return visitors are savvy of your site and know where everything is and become blind. I have heard reports, that aproximately 80% of your clicks are generated from first time visitors, is this corect or way off? Also, would it be in the best interest of a publisher to change templates occasionally, or even goes as far as having a random template and swap between several templates/themes? thanks in advance.
Also, new visitors may not find what they are looking for, and are therefore likely to leave your site through any ads that look relevant. Meanwhile, repeat visitors have found what they looked for, and are returning for the same thing, which is another reason why they don't click ads. I wonder if new and returning visitors need to see different ads? New visitors are looking for something else which is the similar to your site, while regular visitors would like to see ads that interest them, but aren't necessarily directly related to the website. I think that randomly changing the theme and/or style of a website is going to serious unsettle the regular visitors. Cycling colours of the ads might be okay, but I prefer to keep mine blended. Most of my visitors are regulars, so my CTR is terribly low. But, it's still worth me having AdSense on my site. Cryo.
