First Time user needs assistance with setup and Validation.

    Hello, I am having a problem setting up the co-op system on my site. My site uses both .php and .shtml, and I am currently using both in my web pages.

    I have performed the setup according to the instructions provided but I am showing no Ads nor am I able to validate. Now, the only thing that I have been unable to do is to create the .htaccess file as my site tells me that I don't have permission to do so. This is a Yahoo! store, and I assumed that, since I can use .php and .shtml already, that I wouldn't need the .htaccess file. Please advise.

    My site is http://www.ourknickknacks.com and I have included the command <!--#include virtual="http://www.ourknickknacks.com/ad_network_390.php" --> to all of my pages. (I have also tried it with <!--#include virtual="/ad_network_390.php" --> which would not work either). Note: I expanded the filename to include the domain name because my store pages all begin with http://store.ourknickknacks.com.

    I would greatly appreciate your assistance with setting this up on my site. I am new to this Ad network and am very interested in seeing how it will work for my online store(s).

    Thanks and Have a Great Day!

    Frank

    It's not parsing SSI... if you look at the source of the page, you can see the SSI include code in the source.

    Hello Shawn, and Thank You for your reply. I have been hearing/reading a lot of good things about you and I hope that you can assist me with this setup.

    I don't understand why it isn't parsing this .php file. I am currently using SSI for headers and footers on the web site now. I am also using .php for some link exchange sites. I have had difficulty with editting/uploading a .htaccess file and I don't know if it is really needed.

    Can you please shed some more light on this for me.

    Thanks,

    Frank

    One more note: As I am successfully using both .shtml and .php on my website, I have tried both of the following:

    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_390.php');
    echo $ad_network;
    ?>

    and

    <!--#include virtual="/ad_network_390.php" -->

    Thanks.

    I'm not sure... you probably would want to talk to your hosting company to find out why your SSI include isn't being parsed by the server.

    Thanks Shawn,

    I have been attempting to do so, but this website is hosted by Yahoo! Small Business solutions, and their tech support offices are currently evacuated due to Hurricane Rita.

    In the meantime, I have tried everything in my webmaster mental toolbox, but to no avail.

    Can you tell me if the .htaccess file is part of the problem here?

    Thanks,

    Frank

    I received a reply from Yahoo! web hosting today:

    "We're sorry, the .htaccess file you are mentioning is not currently
    supported through Yahoo! Web Hosting and we do not have an estimated
    date as to when or if it will be available. However, we'll pass your
    comments on to our Development team for further consideration.

    FYI, Yahoo! Web Hosting does not support any file starts with a dot(.)."

    So, once again I am wondering if the inability to use the .htaccess file would have anything to do with the problem that I am having.

    I appreciate your consideration.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    You don't need to use .htaccess... I still would ask them why your SSI include isn't working.
