The actual theory itself kinda makes perfect sense. At first I thought this guy din't know much and was just blowing steam to get his 15 mins of fame but it sounds like it actually has some real ground.

it really isn't a time machine that we think of but it would be a time machine and a huge step in science if it it could be made.

If you had a real time machine, what year would you go to?

OK I watched it but I don't get it. Why would light twist space? Isn't it supposed to lack mass? Is there a physicist in the room?

Wait a second - isn't this the Politics and Religion forum? what the...?

The link works now. Interesting video, they don't explain enough of the science though.

I'm no physicist but the whole light twisting space thing caught me too. Unfortunately there was no explanation given for that.

Where are our PHd physicists when we need them?

Light is made up of photons. Space and time are subject to magnetic bends.

Speed of light, however, is not as important as being able to magnetically or gravitationally alter the plane of space and time to allow for folding. Even if we could fold space, we would be unable to realistically reverse time. However, we could go into the future, or at the very least, we could arrive in areas far far away within moments rather than billions of years in a pickup truck in space.

Good question, but i guess if a laser is strong enough or maybe has certain properties to it, it might be possible to distort space?

No. You need mass. Lots and lots and lots of mass. Or a way of generating enough power to cause a rift.

If you need mass, just go to the deep south and look for the closest all you can eat buffet. You will be sure to find enough mass to warp space and time. j/k

What about micro-sigularities?(mini black holes). I think it was john titor predicting cern would be able to create
these singularities and sure enough a few years after he predicted this cern announced they had successfully created ones that lasted a few seconds. Black holes can bend anything that has mass and since time theoretically had mass then it too can be bent?

Time has mass? That is new to me, can you point me to some decent sources that say so. That is what's great about science, always something new.

Light has some mass, A little mass, But a photon does exist as a particle. *
I don't understand why it would have an effect on space though. I haven't watched the video (youtube wouldn't load) but i get the impression the experiment is going to sound like a solution to an engine malfunction in star trek.

    * i thought i should put this in just to clarify. The photon has no stationary mass, But when moving it has momentum.

According to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, any vehicle (even cars and trucks) which accelerates is a time machine. It has to go really fast (like approaching light speed) before it has an appreciable affect on relative timelines though.
