Site is listed on first page(9th place) for keyword which according to Google keyword tool has 45K+ searches per month. Yet, there is no much traffic coming to my site for that specific keyword. What is your experience regarding this situation( accuracy of Google keyword tool, first page but not in the top 3 results etc)?
The numbers provided by Google AdWords tool can be very inflated. It is very common to see a high number there and when you get a top ranking for the "highly searched" phrase, you don't see much traffic. Sometimes people in the SEO business search those keyword phrases to check rankings. That certainly can artifically increase the number of searches.
Position nine is good, but leaves room for improvement as well. Moreover, the fact that you rank for that keyword (which looks like not a big deal of a target) doesn't mean your traffic will surge. The keyword may be just not the best option available.
As position 9 is nearly off the first page that makes a difference. Also the estimated 45k searches monthly, is that broad match or exact match of the keyword? Depends on relevancy of your site/page too, plus many other things of course.
Ranking 9th will give you only a small percentage of the traffic that the 1st result would recieve, possibly 4-5%. It really does make a difference when you appear in the top 4. The first result will always get big traffic, I would say from experience double that of the 2nd result. Don't forget though that descriptions and titles are vtially important when it comes to catching the searchers eye.
Good points. I agree, position 9 is not ideal and Google Keyword tool most likely shows inflated numbers. As for 45k searches, that is broad match. Exact match is around 35K.
Google keyword tool stats are not very accurate at all in my opinion. If you want to get a good feel for the traffic a keyword gets in google use your adwords account to test the keywords in real time. Try it for a week or two and look at the impressions that will give you a more accurate way of seeing what the actual search volume is for each keyword. Also 9 th position is a start, but try everything you can to move up in the top 3 if possible you will see your conversions skyrocket.
The description showed by Google and your title will affect the CTR. You may not receive a lot of clicks if your listing is not attractive (to the searchers). I have pretty good traffic for a 4th and 5th position for a 90K keyword - exact match. Is that your most referred keyword? You may want to work on other keywords to see what works best for you =)
