[edited] I'm dumb ... wrong title, it should have been first page on digg sorry [/edited]

    My god !

I always underestimated digg, probably because we don't have many webmaster related sites ... yesterday someone submitted a link to our fake magazine covers generator on Funonit.com, in less than 7 hours we was on digg homepage ....

After one minute on the homepage the server just crashed with more than 500 user on the site ... unluckly, generating a big jpeg is much more cpu intensive than showing static content :( anyhow we managed to load balance the server quite quickly and we already received 8.000 uniques from digg ... this is just crazy :) I'd just like to see what slashdot could do ... many says that it now generate less traffic than digg.

Anyhow, this was my 2 cents, hope it's usefull for someone :p

    Hi all,

First of all thanks for your kind opinions on the website, it has been a funny work to develope it and we're proud of the results :)

Here you are some stats on the results we had.
Yesterday we had 14k unique with around 60k pageviews
Today we're around 6k uniques with 35k pageviews
in the first 24 hours after digg we generated around 8000 fake magazine covers with a I think around 2 Gb of photos uploaded

Really nice, digg is now gone but we became most popular link on delicious and at least 30 >3 PR sitess linked to us including 2 PR6

I think these are quite good number and the good quantity of returning visitors with an increase of pageviews x visitor make me hope that we'll manage to create a solid user base of loyal visitors :)

What do you think about it ?

sounds like you are having more of a viral effect than just a digg effect as you have a cool and interesting service that is FREE! :) people love free... the question is are you getting any money in return or making anything ?

That's what I want to know. Sure, it's worth it just for the links if nothing else, but how is the traffic converting? I know digg isn't know for converting well usually, so just wondering.

I believe digg gets more traffic than slashdot now. Digg has grown dramatically. Also the traffic on digg doesn't convert at all. You may get a few conversions if you are on the home page and that is normally it.

    Here I am again :)

Ok lot's of you have asked about $$ :) from this point of view results were not as good as traffic :) obviously there was a big increase in them but levels were not as espected. with 60k pageviews we earned around 40$.

This is due to 2 factors IMHO. the first one is that most of traffic was directed to the fake cover generator and that's surely the section of Fun On It where the CTR is lower due to design and to the fact that while generating the cover is unlikely that someone leave the site.

The second factor is Google. I'm loosing any consideration in them and as soon as YPN will be available in Italy I'll switch. Banners not always showing in home page a terribly low pay per click. Also I'm seeing that whenever site start earning good on Adsense after a couple of week they decrease the payout per click making our efforts useless.

Obviously this is a very personal opinion mainly due to emotional issues but I get really angry seeing bad designed arcade sites with old games and no work behind them earning lot's of $$ with YPN with less traffic than us ... I'm really starting to think that often bad designed sites generate more revenues :)

I have a games section on my site. I find now matter what you site looks like, it still all takes all of work.

The only sites that dont get much work put into them are sites that are brought of the shelve that already have a bundle of games.

My arcade section of the site has take a long time to do and I have put alot of work into it. I had to find all the games myself and I built the site using notepad.

Anyway, I guess you are argry at YPN rather than the game sites. It's YPN vault in the first place that you can join it, but I guess you just have to wait.

It should be coming to the UK soon, but even if it does I still will not be joining it untill it allows you to earn on traffic from anywhere in the world.

You can only sign up to YPN is you are in the US and you are also only paid for US traffic.

Once it comes to the UK then you can only sign up if you are in the UK and you can only send UK traffic to it as you will only be paid for that traffic. If you send US traffic then you won't get paid for it.

I don't like the fact that they are doing it this way. I am from the UK but my sites get mainly Canada, Australia and US visitors.

We're from Italy so I'm afraid it will take much longer :)

Sure I'm not talking about all the arcade website, but when you go to Sitepoint Marketplace or here at DP 90% of the site going for sale are ArcadeScript, GS and othere standard script with standard games loaded and ugly template :) (not talking about ALL the sites of course) :)

I agree with you about all them game arcades coming on the Web where they have just quickly brought an arcade script that is already bundled with about 1500 or more games.

I have just nearly 500 games in my arcade and it took a long time to get them put in and then their not 100% spot on as I have to redo all the images.

Anyway, It also gets to me a little when I have to wait for something when others already are using it and can get it. Further more it gets to me even more when people can have something but they don't want it and then we want it but we can't.

It is like boardband down where I live. Many places already had broadband near where I live, but I couldn't get it in my area. Now that I have it I still only can get up to 512kb's. My mate, which lives about half a mile away can get up to 4mb's and he doesn't even use the Internet.
