Chad Kimball reckons he can get on first page of Google for a keyword in 24 hours without article marketing. http://arborgroup.org/GoogleWSODiscountPage.htm What do you think? Sounds like BS to me. Maybe he means hubpages or squidoo or something? Youtube videos? I put this post in this section because I don't really regard it as SEO.
The main question is whether that position is sustainable or not...I have seen my site ranking first for few hours for a very competitive word but then in less than 2 days its not even on first 5 pages
No matter what you use, BUM marketing, squidoo, web2.0 etc it's going to take a while to get listed in google let alone 1stpage. yes it can be done but google aint stupid and they, rightly so, only want to give the user a quality link for their search. The best way to get top links is to find some that have low competition with at least 2 searches/day and give them good content. I use a software tool that finds these kw's, and is awesome. PM me for details as I've not reached 10 posts yet.
Anyone can get the top spot or top page within 24-48 hours on google if the keyword is 8-10 words long. If he is looking for keywords that are competitive at all it would take well over 24 hours more like 2-3 months.
IT also depends on the power/trust of the domain. Like somebody mentioned above, a squidoo page or Hub-page 'page' can gain pretty good rankings relatively quickly just because of the power/trust the domain has when google indexes the page. If he has a highly trusted domain with a large network or backlinks, then its much easier to rank over night than if you were to try and rank over night for a brand new site. That being said, somebody claiming they can rank overnight for a term like ringtones or poker is probably full of crap.
he didn't say for what key word though, if there aren't many competitors for a certain keyword you can probally do it
I can get top 5 rankings for short/popular keywords within 6 hours, but it is nearly impossible to sustain those rankings. Getting to the top of Google quickly, but only staying there for a short time doesn't make much sense...
It is easy to get on page one for a term. Big deal. But...what, KIND, of term? Now, if he says that he can, say, get you on page one for say, "dating advice," or "pet supplies," yeah, ok. Everybody and their brother who knows anything about seo is also vying for page one, so it is the luck of the draw. That is all. Whenever you run into blowhards like that, ask him what is his site(s), and all of the most-typed in keywords he is under that are on page one.
Yes its pretty easy to do that. I have experience this before but my ranking is dropping next day to 2nd page. In short,its easy to get first page of google and its hard to maintain the position
I have a domain that was spanked for selling links by Google. I was on the first page for results on Sarah Palin 5 hours before she was selected(I had inside info on her selection) and I stayed there for several hours after the announcement until I was buried by the deluge of news articles and blog postings.
Its maintaining the first page ranking which is the hard part. Plus I would guess he can only do this for keyword phrases which don't have a great deal of competition.

it is about creating long tail keyword phrases, then using web 2.0 and RSS feeds to blast the info out. Works for some but not others...if he could offer #1 spot on google ask yourself would you sell it for $34 per sale? I WOULDN'T! If I was that confident, I would take 10 clients on and charge them $999 each, he says 15 minutes work.. so thats say 3 hours tops, not bad for $9990 for a days work!
I don't think it is possible to do that but if it is then like others have said you may not keep that spot for long

it's not that easy even not possible especially with high comptition keywords. that what I was going to say lol.
