So my jobs website is on the first page of MSN for the keyword "job centre" and I know this is likely due to the fact that MSN seems to love keywords in the domain. I also realise that my site is only a couple of months old and that that particular keyword is very competitive. While I know PR doesnt necessarily mean anything in SERPs my site has just gone from PR0 to PR4 and I am wondering if this will mean I start showing somewhere for "job centre" or even "job centre vacancies"? If not what else can I do to really target my SEO efforts on Google? What does it love in terms of SEO? Thanks
Have you considered buying some targeted links? Google usually takes a few months longer than MSN to rank
Yeah I have several high PR links with anchor text "job centre vacancies" so will Google appreciate this? Some of the links are showing up in Google, some are not....
Google will appreciate all relevant links. As Google does not show all the backlinks, it often misleads webmasters into thinking that those missing links are left out by Google.. its not
i think you've suffered like I have from using rss feeds for content. Google often plays around with the ranking of these sites. Mines taken a massive hit recently to but seems to be clawing it's way back slowly - i'm sure your site will recover. Never quite sure whether it's because of duplicate content or just Google's natural scheme of things.
Well this site is very new and I have never actually had any rankings for my targeted kws, so while I am not waiting for a recovery I am hoping to get high enough to get some visitors from them. I have asked before about the RSS feeds and have always been told that they rarely harm a sites rankings. I'm hoping this is the case. The feeds were only added to the site about a week ago to add to its content/usefulness.
It's hard to say - i use them for cinema listings. I wouldn't have thought rss feeds would be penslised as they are not really different to product feeds in as much as they are duplicated. My site recovered before and I'm hoping it will again regards
Hi There I have observed that some msn and google conduct there rankings very diferently. Are you familiar withe the terms "sandbox effect", "trust rank" ? These are concepts that apply to almost any new site trying to rank on google
It takes time to get a good rankings on the Big G. No need to worry, Y & G will follow if you already have a good rankings on msn.
As u say ur site is couple of months old ..it may be sandboxed in google ..its very easy to get listed in MSN.for google its more of linkbacks and age of domain.
I'm currently in the top 4 for my a highly target keyword on MSN. I'm 14 on Yahoo and 25 on Google. I'm setting my goals accordingly. 1st top MSN, 2nd top Yahoo, and 3rd top 3 on Google. It will be tough getting spot 1 on Google (damn you Wikipedia).
don't think mine is sandboxed but it's hard to tell Ive gone from about 400 uniques a day in Google to about 40-60. Some pages still showing well. Strangely another of my sites has doubled Google traffic. This happened to me last year with one site and lasted about a month or so.
msn love links while G required qualities... It really need time to rank well, depend on the keywords competition and more things to consider...
right, so i'll just give it some time and build up more links and improve the content then? Do I stand a good chance of ranking well in Google then if I have the rankings in MSN?
They have diferent ranking criteria, ranking well in google is no guarranttee of equal rankings in MSN, and that works both ways
