It took me about 8 weeks, but this was 6 years ago. Now
when I post a new page to my site it can be on the first
page of Google in 3-4 days.

But my key phrases are more obscure than most.

    best regards

It took me several years in a highly competitive niche. However, now I have #1 position!

I started a website tagerting a one word product I was selling. I made first page withing a month and #2 within 6 weeks. After enjoying the benefits for about 4 weeks, bam, out of the top 1,000. My site is now over a year old and I have been #2 again for the past 6 months.

On Tuesday Sept 26 I posted a new page, on Thursday
    Sept 28th it was indexed.

Today Sept 29th it is #3 for a 3 word key phrase that has 5.9 million "results" in google.

I have said this before, but it bears repeating. Over the last
20 months I have had about 2 million referrals that include
keywords. The most popular 100 keywords only brought me
300,000 visitors. 1,250,000 of the keywords were only used
    once.

I suspect that for many of the 1.2 million single-use key phrases
we were close to the top of the page.

This is why lots of good content is more important than optimizing for a
    certain keyword.

In fact, if I had to survive on the keywords that I optimized for
I would starve to death, even though they are all on the first page.

    best regards
