    1. use a doctype
    2. use a more standards compliant browser such as Opera or FF2

I am guessing a "doctype'' replaces notepad?

    And FF2 = FireFox2?

Sorry I am new to the Web Design thing.

Ahh this doctype thing has me all confused. I am looking in the section on that link "Dontypes That Work." Do I copy one of the doctypes and put it at the top of my script?

A lot of people might think I'm wrong for this, but try getting dreamweaver so you can have a split panel. You get to see the code and what it will show if you loaded it onto the web. It helps me when I heave to learn what script or HTML code does what.

If you do happen to get Dreamweaver, DO NOT RELY ON THE WYSIWYG FEATURES only stay in code view and do not use any of the "Insert" commands or you won't learn anything.

I like how Dreamweaver sounds. I am not going to use any of the insert commands because I am so eager to learn everything there is to know about html and css in the future.

When I first got into web design I read how everyone hates wysiwyg editors and prefers hand coding...I though "you've got to be kidding me! hand coding must suck!"

Of course 4 years later...I do nothing but hand coding...lol.

If you want a good HTML editor but don't want to spend the money on Dreamweaver...or get it by, ahem, other means...then get the free version of Coffee Cup. I have all the latest Adobe/Macromedia stuff and I still use Coffee Cup for about 90% of my HTML work.

I can't post links cause I'm new, so just Google "coffeecup" to find it.
