    Hello,

This is the first Icon I have ever made I mostly do basic graphic design but most of the business in Graphic Design is in Logo's and all companies need an Icon or Insignia to represent themselves so I tried re-creating the Windows Movie Maker Icon Tell me what you think.

I doubt he is talking about that pencil image... You have to click the attachment to see what he means!

To the OP, it looks really good for a starting work. Keep it up.

    Oh right, aha.

In that case, I'd say you should work on the middle 'film' part. It looks like you've tried to draw it using the pen tool and you've done an admirable job - but I'd use the shape tools instead. The first part of the curve seems to follow the same curve as the circles you've used for the film case, so use a circle to create that. Then you could use another circle that's subtracting a solid to create the inverse curve for when the film folds back up. I'll show you later if I have any free time.

That would be great if u have any free time.

What I did was I made a rectangle shape for the film and a circle shape for the disk I used the Warp, distort, and skew tools to alter the shape of the film to match the disk i actually didnt use the pen tool at all.

Yes, the film part is looking small and it is not making any FEEL of the object. Maybe try having more FILM space between the circles ?

Dear what you have designed is more than a start. I appreciate your work. Keep on designing the same icon as many times as you can as repetitions can make anything look and work accurately.

Oooh, it's ugly. But it's normal for the first shot! I remember when I designed my own first icon, it was waaaaay uglier, so don't worry and keep on improving ;)

Its a good effort but i still prefer the original windows movie maker, maybe you should try something a bit different instead of a full replica.

Alright I understand it is your first icon and for your FIRST its good but in general its not that great. Icons today usually have 3 simple elements.

Gradients of light/dark shades of the same color.
Highlights and Shadowing to add to the depth.
A Gloss effect to add to web 2.0 style that is soooo mainstream right now.

visit: (changge the 0 into a o, and remove the parenthsis from the .) pshero[.]c0m/photoshop-tutorials/graphic-design/cs3-style-icons

I would say follow that tutorial but dont just FOLLOW it, learn from it.
Learn what makes it so modern and appealable to everyone.
Observe the gloss, the gradients, an the dodging/burning that makes it a 2010 look.

A great start...just remember if you will be designing logos in the future, always use vectors...dont design in photoshop because its pixel based..can't re size without distortion :)

It's okay, nice try. I suggest removing the line on the reel.
