    Hi guys,

I just bought my very first domain (from Namecheap) and am totally confused on how to point it to my web site. I want it to be still hosted with Namecheap but pointing to a web site located on a different hosting serwer.
    what do I do?

    1. check the nameservers of your hosting account (usually something like NS1.yourhosting.com and NS2. yourhosting.com)
    2. go to your domain name registrar, find where to change nameservers for your domain and change them
    3. wait few hours

would that mean that I don't host my domain with namecheap anymore?

namecheap is your registrar, you have to tell him where to point that domain. It will still be your registrar, you only have to change the nameservers in the settings for your domain to point to your web hosting provider.

wait.... which hosting server are you using? What was your web site address until now (without domain)? If it is something like myblog.blogspot.com than this is different.

namecheap does not offer web hosting so what would happen if I leave their's nameserver name unchanged. Domain would be wasteless?

no worries, I had subdomain from my host for few weeks.

If you leave nameservers in your domain name settings unchanged they will simply point to some pre-set server (probably to namecheap).

What you need to do is ask your hosting privider (the one you have webpage on), to tell you what their nameservers are.

Than you go with this information to namecheap and set the nameservers in your domain settings there. So that the domain points to your hosting provider.

Also your hosting provider must set his DNS servers for your domain (meaning that you need to tell your hosting provider that you have a new domain and that you want it to point to your old webpage).

domain is not hosted, domain is registred. and it will remain to be registred at namecheap, it will just point to your website which is hosted somewhere else.
