    Hey guys;

A lot of people are submitting deep links. I'm considering not allowing this because other directories don't at least the ones I've seen.

Why don't others accept deep links? Will these hurt my website? Opinions please. What kind of filters should I be using to accept/reject submissions?

No response, but on another forums advice I'm going to stop taking deep links and sites that are not indexed by google or yaoo. Don't need PR but need to be indexed or you might have been banned.

Would like to know opinions on this.

Ive submitted thanks, my only comment is that it looks a little cluttered on the page, it wasnt instantly obvious where to go.

My only reason is to prevent guys from submitting 50 deep links from their site. I accept it but require one PR1+ reciprocal for each deep link.

I can see this from both sides. I personally like directories that do accept deep links a lot better. That said, if I owned a directory, I certainly would not want to have multiple submissions from the same site in the same category. However, if they are submitted into different, relevant categories, I do not see any problem with it at all, and in my opinion the best way to go.

Yes, sounds good in the theory but if you get 50+ submissions a day and don't have more than 10 seconds to spend on each approval you don't want to think about such things - it is a whole lot easier to have one rule and that's it.

I typically allow it but limit it to 5. This ensures you don't get the 50+ but you are offering something most webmasters will value.

So I started removing deeplinks and a couple subdomains that were used more as categories than as different sites. I'm thinking on the deeplink thing.

Maybe deeplink is ok but need recip link and only 1 link per site. No free deep links. Does this sound like an ok solution?

    Sound good. :)

deep linking is always headake for webmasters if directory is spammed. one requires good script to prevent multiple submissions. most of scripts either support unique URl or allows as many.
i don't know but is wsn directory is supporting this feature ?

i have added my directory. all the best with your nice directory.

Instead of automatically removing, why don't you offer those who submitted the option to purchase a "featured" link?

Well people may resubmit, I'm new to this and didn't think about it. I've added some more thanks for submissions.

I have changed up the criteria for submision to checking for indexed pages from google yahoo and msn. So even pages with a PR on them would be denied if you're banned from MSN.

If you have a PR0 doesn't matter as long as you're indexed by the 3. Tf not indexed because it's a new site I'll keep it and wait until it is.

    Is this the best way?

Deeplink is fine with a recip. I'd like to offer 5 deep links for recips like greenstalk.com does but lack the skills as of now if someone has an idea of where a newbie like me could go or such a plugin or where to start suc a project let me know.

Seems fine. The 5 deep links like greenstalk is a good idea. The only inconvenience now is that someone who took a good bit of time submitting various listings into your directory before, only to have them not listed, is probably going to find it easier to spend time submitting to other directories than to come back to yours and submit again. :) Good luck, though. I hope it all goes well!
