First day with new domain name. Backlinking Question?

I just purchased a new domain name today, and uploaded 1 page for it. I think the domain is pretty good so hopefully i will get some traffic just from being good. I plan on launching the site at the end of this weekend. I started to post my link on a few sites, as soon as i bought the domain name. My question to everyone is...can building links so soon hurt me. I heard building links to fast is a bad thing with google.

If you just bought your domain today, wait 2-3 days before you start building links to it. The DNS propagation needs to complete first, otherwise people and SE's might find your domain does not resolve yet.

Actually building some links from the start is a good thing. Make sure you get a XML sitemap and submit that to Google, Yahoo, Live/MSN, and Ask. Here's a quick launch index guide that has more details.

Do a search on Google. I find discussing DNS about as exciting as being stuck in rush hour.
