Isn't that cute. Seems she will fill that fat whores seat just fine. Er, Star lost a lot of weight, she's just a crack whore now.

In all seriousness, how sick. We are not talking about killing something to eat or wear, we are talking about electrocuting, drowning, and beating dogs to death.

It's a shame i used to like her until i read this, i don't know how she can seriously defend those actions.

Dog fighting is a serious no no for me being as i am a dog lover.

No, just common sense my friend.
It's not only about race, it's also about ratings.

But think O.J. Simpson, who supports him and who doesn't. Why they support him, and why they don't support him.

One side bases their support on race, one on logic and common sense.
Now, does it make me racist for pointing this out? Or just it make the people participating in the so-called support racist?

There is nothing commonsense about it, and it is bald racism, in my opinion. Vick is an asshole, and a criminal, and worthy of the worst condemnation. Goldberg is an asshole for saying what she said. Goldberg. As in, a person, not The Black Race, a Wall of Opinion united in support of Vick's action. The fact that she's black is about as important to the discussion as the fact that she's a woman - "maybe she has a thing for him....yeah, that's it! Gotta be!"

Beyond, here's what Goldberg actually said:

-Moronic? Yep. A slam on southerners? Yep, I'd say so. She is actually calling Vick a southerner here, and nothing in what she said mentioned his being black.

Here. Here's your "one side bases their support on race."

For another, see Bryan Burwell's thoughtful commentary: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20399050/

-You'll note that Hill and Burwell are black. Numerous others. People are as divided on this as on everything else, but it is easy enough to correlate Goldberg's asinine and attention-getting statement with her race. I'll agree with part of what you said - I have no doubt that it was about ratings: first day on this insipid show, a great way to stir the pot. Such a stunt may as well have been Roseanne Barr (how about that National Anthem), or Howard Stern, or any other media-hound, and for that, she's lost my respect.

I also find your characterizations of O'Donnell and Jones as "whores" offensive as hell. Both of them, yes, I can't stand them either. Whores? No. That isn't what you call women you don't like. Unless you hold women generally in contempt. An entire thread, begun by you, pointing up the plight of women in Islamic society and you have blown your credibility there by your obvious views here. Nice job. You and AGS have obviously found your common ground.

    TWalker, your views are obvious.

This was your characterization of Vick, in response to my thread announcing his suspension. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=450805&highlight=vick What the hell does how he look have anything to do with anything? Ah...I see...he looks like an ape. I didn't reply because the thread needed to die the moment you entered with this crap. So if you want to jump on the bandwagon here, fine, but we should cut the game playing.

    I'm on board with ly2.

I think O is defending him because he is black. If Vick was some white back country hillbilly I bet O would do a segment on how terrible dog fighting (etc) is.

Go ahead and call me a racist if it helps you sleep better at night; I've had friends of all races.

Who is O? You wouldn't be thinking of Oprah Winfrey, would you? Because doing so might open you up to saying you don't know the difference between Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg. Bit of a problem, I would guess, in proving your point.

Now. We can all surmise people's intent all we want; until we can read minds, all we have is what people say and write. When did Goldberg make mention of his being black? Even if she did, why would her blackness make that a pre-determined given in the vein "I think you know why, wink wink, nudge nudge?"

My appoligies, I don't follow popular culture much. I thought it was Oprah (just woke up too :( ) The name changes but the game stays the same.

Oprah, Whoopi - whatever. Anyone defending Vick has some serious character issues. My getting the name wrong doesn't change that fact.

Uh, yeah, to be sure. I know it's difficult to separate Oprah Winfrey from Whoopi Goldberg. You know, one of them has built herself a world empire, and is one of the most recognizable faces alive on the planet today, and the other one has been in professional purgatory and public obscurity for years. But hey, they're black - damn hard to know the difference. Give me a break, buddy.

I agree with your last paragraph. Anyone defending Vick has some serious character issues. Or as I said, "asshole." Last time I checked, race wasn't a "character" issue. Which defines racism, of course, to believe so.

She's just saying that it's a cultural thing; she's not supporting dog fighting. You've got to understand that each culture has its norms, and Vick was not outside of his culture's norms when he did this. In the south there are many activities which most Americans would not condone, just as some cultures are sickened by American's wholesale slaughter of cows. Sure, we eat them, but we don't HAVE to eat them. I don't think there are any Americans who would starve if they couldn't have their steak. I condemn dog fighting, and I eat steak, but I also realize that there are cultures that would have different views on both.

Whoopi said that dogfighting was a sport here in the south...I'd like her to come live in the south...It is not a sport, is not done all the time, and is cruel to a dog that could possibly be used for other reasons...like to keep coons off the porch or chase rabbits or squirrels.

She's pretty ignorant on the matter, but I never really heard her say that Michael Vick should not be punished. I just heard her say that perhaps he never really viewed what he was doing as wrong.

northpointaiki, that was an excellent post about what exactly Goldberg said about Vick and other black citizens that are denouncing what he did. Thanks for keeping the discussion levelheaded.
