First Bad Experience with YPN

I had my first bad experience today with YPN. I hope this is not an indication of where things are going.

I log my earnings pretty closely, and up until now I have been overall happy with YPN. Although I won't disclose how much I get on a CPM basis or a CPC basis, I can say that since the new year, my revenue per click has dropped to record lows. In fact, it is so low, it is right around 1/4 of what I am used to receiving. My CPM has also dropped significantly down to 1/3 of what I am used to receiving.

I called the support center today, not expecting much other than a simple "thanks for the feedback". Instead, I got a customer service rep who was less than cordial, offered very short answers, and basically told me that these were the breaks.

Obviously, I did not expect him to tell me anything of substance (what could he tell me), but I did want to know that the feedback made it back to someone important. After all, a 75% drop in revenue is something to be concerned about.

Anyone else see a drop in revenue per click since the new year?

My revenues dropped on 12/25 and stayed low until the last two days when they have made a slight rebound. I think it was just advertisers bidding less over the holidays.

However this has been my challenge with YPN since it started. My daily average CPC varies significantly each day. With AdSense I pretty much know what I'm going to make, with YPN some days I make a little more and other days I make significantly less.

No, the site is not seasonal - its a webmaster related website. I saw a drop on Christmas, but that was to be expected. The week between Christmas and New Years had a pretty standard RPC. Its just this week that I've fallen by 75%

tflight - our experiences are quite different. Adsense would fluctuate wildly for me, while YPN has been fairly consistent over time. That is very odd.

I've just added category targeting to see how well that works. I'll let you know if I see a big change.

I don't think that is necessarily odd. It just shows how some ad programs work very well for some and very poor for others. It all depends on the market you are in, how the advertisers that are actually bidding on the ads behave, etc. Just like how for some people Chitika is doubling their income while other people couldn't make a penny.
