yep, them darn directories are deader then a doornail. The last submission I received was so long ago. About three hours. :D

Seriously, if you believe directories are dead and not worth the effort then why do you put forth effort to post a list? Kind of contradictory don't you think?

Directories have been around quite a long time, and I doubt they will be going anywhere anytime soon.

Just because a directory adds itself to some web list, doesn't mean directories will survive. It takes no skill to pay a hosting fee so a website can exist on the web. The skill is getting enough people to use it and thats why you need a unique idea, these directories are not unique and will not get the necessary exposure to make the sales for one to be seen as great!

The appearance of directories being real businesses has always been a controversial arguement, and is always one of ego mainly talked about by the webmaster community only, which says a lot. It's an old arguement owned by forums and encouraged to increase post count, but reality is that these directories won't ever be famous or successful beyond the confines of the web and the webmasters that buy into all this crazy talk are happy with that.

Yeah, some have good intentions about changing the web, but even those won't make it because they don't have the knowledge, experience, idea, capital or drive to make one work. So all we have are lists of copycat generals flying about wasting people's time and money - but I guess this directory thing holds more than just making money here. It's only other webmasters that visit these things or freebie hunters checking to see if their links are still intact - quite sad actually, but that's life I guess.

Perhaps it's the entertainment of coming on a forum and saying "I'm the best" - who knows..... Motivation is a funny thing, it makes people do mad things.
