Firefox Referrals -- Can you tell them to download?

What are the limits to the web publisher when promoting the Firefox with Google browser? Is there a limit? On one of my wordpress blogs, Firefox surfs faster and cleaner (Wordpress is optimized for Firefox), and I want my visitors to download the browser and install it, promising them a faster and smoother surfing of the site, which is very much true. But I was wondering, what are the limits with the referral when it comes to Firefox?

well their TOS state that "driving unnatural attention" also aplies to referrals, but aren't the buttons given by them already "driving attentions"?

That's the thing. I'm not sure if there is or isn't a limit when it comes to the Firefox referrals. And it IS true that their surfing experience on my blog will be faster and smoother if they use Firefox.

According to the TOS referrals, such as firefox with google toolbar, are dealt with in the TOS as google ads. So I guess the best thing is not to do anything with them that you wouldn't do with google ads.

Maybe the following would be OK: stating somewhere at the top of the page that the site is optimised for firefox and compatible browsers. Elsewhere on the page (far away) always have the referral button loaded (regardless of browser). At least, in my opinion this wouldn't be drawing unnatural attention to the referral button as it's always there. It would just be a warning to anyone using a browser that is not firefox (or compatible, i.e. uses gecko as its rendering engine). That would be "fair" if the warning about site optimisation only appeared for browsers that are genuinely slower with your blog. I couldn't see google complaining about such a method, but always best to ask them.

    Good luck!

by site you mean something like www.whyyoushouldusefirefoxandscrewotherbrowsers.com and having 20 pages listing 20 reasons why firefox is good and placing the referral button all over the site?

i'm not too sure if that can work, but if i were to interpret the TOS strictly, i don't think you're allowed to do that. i distinctly remember that they say you're allowed to say how good firefox is but you're not allowed to directly ask them to click on the referral button.

EDIT: i thought i had the email somewhere, but i can't find it. :(

An arrow pointing at the referral isn't that against the TOS?

    EDIT:

I just read the TOS again, and no, you can not do that. It says google refer buttons are just like ads. treat them the same way.

Spreadfirefox.com is the official site of Firefox. In fact, I like Firefox enough that I'm just going to promote it as a free download without the Google referral. I love this friggin browser!
