Hi I have had a poke around the net for possible solutions but wonder if anyone has any first hand advice regarding Firefox. Simply put, it is barely running; hanging at every opportunity and consuming huge amounts of processing power. I have firewalls, anti virus and all sorts of anti spy and malware protection that I run every evening. Nothing nasty has been found. I run utilities every weekend to clean the disk and defrag. I clear the download cache after each download. I'm not sure what else to do. I have quite a few plug ins and toolbars that I use every day and would be loathe to lose them...... Has anyone else experienced any problems with Firefox and if so, would they share with me what they did to cure them? Thanks Dee
Maybe you are installing a development version ? just a thought Also if you installed any add-on lately, uninstall it and see if the performance improves (maybe faulty add-on causing this)
OPERA FTW!!! Unless you have a stout machine I think you're SOL, but in your case, try working backwards on a fresh install and then see how it runs as you add the extensions. In my case, my laptop, my crusty old LT (to today's standards) 1.6GHz Celeron UNI-core but with 1.5GB of RAM - FF was chugging like a big dog. I hit my UCP here @ DP. I right click on 4 tabs and then it hangs, delays about 6 seconds before I can open 4 more say...and I'm lucky if I don't get a "unresponsive script error" "unresponsive script error" are awesome!!! Especially since all I am doing is clicking on a link. Even then after using FF for 1/2 an hour say, it chew into 194MB of memory easily on average and if I have YT or Pandora open, forget about it! It climbs to 350MB and it is deathly slow. If I go to Dallascowboys.com and try and DL some files it takes forever and a day to respond to me wanting to DL more than 1 file at a time or even use the browser while it is thinking abut starting the DL in the first place. Using FF for me is like wiating for a page to load using dial-up! I use maybe 4 ad-ons...perhaps it's one of those! But w/e, OPERA for now for me!!
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to offer some ideas. Will look at Opera but will try the uninstall and gradual reinstall of plugins first to see if that improves the situation. Thanks once again D
All I can tell you is that I just had 10-15 tabs open and it was only 87MB with Opera! let us know if you find the offending add-on. I think in my case it might have been roboform
I have to clear my browsing history every ten days or so. Otherwise, it hangs for a few seconds every minute.
May be just reinstalling will help.... Import your bookmarks...remember to note down all the plug ins and toolbars and then uninstall One good thing about opera is that it doesn't suck so much memory..... But firefox has better plugins and all
Nope I keep my browsing history for 30 days (set as option in FF) and I don't have any performance problems You encounter slow performance with FF in 2 cases I know 1- Opening PDF files (FF opens them while IE downloads them) 2- Opening a site with java/flash (doesn't make you move to another tab until the java applet is loaded for the current tab Never had performance problems with FF before and I think I have been using it for 3 years now
No? But I'm telling you of an issue I've been having w/ FF for a year now. All versions....currently on 2.0.0.6 It might be worth the OP looking into since he's HAVING PROBLEMS.
lol, maybe they give you bugged version of FF everytime you download it well, I love the "try and error" method to troubleshoot a problem in FF case, I'd uninstall it and install it again without any add-ons or themes then try it's performance - if it's improved then the problem is in one of the add-ons so start installing add-ons one by one until you notice that the performance his been affected then you know what add-on causing this slow performance However, I do recommend minimizing the number of installed add-ons to minimal since you always pay for those add-ons from your PC resources
